Los Cabos, the stunning world-wide resort destination located at the tip of the Baja Peninsula in Baja California, Mexico will provide athletes with a 2.4-mile swim in azure blue and turquoise waters in the Sea of Cortes, followed by a 112-mile bike course and a 26.2-mile run course that travels along a 20-mile corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, all while offering views of rugged cliffs, desert vistas and mountains that are bound together by a wash of colors that are unmistakably Cabo's.

"This is truly a spectacular addition to the Ironman circuit," said Steve Meckfessel, Managing Director of Global Race Operations at Ironman. "The vitality of Los Cabos' natural beauty combined with the challenging course that our team has laid out will really set Ironman Los Cabos apart."

Known for its vibrant culture and nightlife, Cabo San Lucas offers visitors a variety of attractions that showcase the heart of Mexico's Western Coast, all while boasting world-class service and amenities. Natural wonders dot the coastline and outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy landmarks such as El Arco, a natural rock formation in the shape of an arch that lies adjacent to Playa Del Amor (Lover's Beach), as well as the rich warm waters and its plethora of black corral gardens, unique marine life and miles of gorgeous sandy beaches.

Located just 20 miles to the northeast of Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo transports visitors to a historic time as ancient buildings, including the Jesuit Mission, known as Parroquia San José, and The Estero, an estuary with an endless variety of colorful birds and wildlife offer a tranquil look back to the 1730's.

Nearly 1,500 participants from more than 50 countries are expected for the inaugural event in 2013. Ironman Los Cabos offers a professional prize purse of $75,000 and 50 coveted age-group slots to the 2013 Ironman World Championship, taking place on Oct. 12, 2013. Online registration will open on May 21, 2012, at 11 a.m. (ET).
HITS Triathlon Series will make its New York State debut in Hunter Mountain, New York June 9-10 and offer local and national triathletes alike a glimpse at what the northeast has to offer.

HITS Triathlon Series released a set of finalized maps this week for all five distances of the Hunter Mountain event. They feature swims in the pristine waters of North/South Lake, which sits within the boundaries of a spacious state park. The Sprint and Olympic distance bike and run courses experience the hills of New York State while still welcoming triathletes of varying levels. The bike and run courses for the Half and Full distance races boast dynamic routes, which include a 15 mile rolling warm-up, plenty of seated climbs and a sweeping decent into the village of Phoenicia.

Course maps for HITS Hunter Mountain are available online and can be viewed <a href="http://hitstriathlonseries.com/hunter-mountain-ny-2012/hunter-mountain-ny-2012-maps" target"_blank">here.

"I have been an avid Triathlete and cyclist for more than 40 years and have had many opportunities to travel the roadways that makeup the HITS race taking place at Hunter Mountain," said Greg Seeley, Greene County Sheriff. "They are some of the most competitive and challenging roadways with the most beautiful views that you will ever experience anywhere in the Country."
In just 5 short years, Izzo has built one of the largest 70.3 distance races in the country held on the shores of the Hudson River in Croton-on-Hudson. Rich isn't about to rest on his laurels, though, as we learned. This year, he created a closed bike course that adds a completely new dimension to the race.

Paul: Looking back on 2011, what was the biggest improvement to the race?

Rich: I would say that every aspect of our race has improved over the last 4 years. But one of the things we are so proud of is our army of volunteers. In 2008, we had 50 volunteers whereas in 2011 there were 800 volunteers. We are on target for 1100 this year. This is a virtual army of people out there to cheer for the athletes.
We added more infrastructure for the 2011 race, from a VIP tent, spectator stands and 15 foot wind wing flags that lined the last mile of the race to an information center. Also our logistics team is up there with the best in the business having several key people that have been in the race organization business for over 30 yrs.

Paul: How many people participated?

Rich: Last year we had 1100 athletes register which made the race a sellout for the third consecutive year and mind you that was with increasing the amount of racers by 400 from the year before. For 2012 we expect a sellout again with an additional 300 racers.

Paul: Did the community appreciate the support for the 911 remembrances and memorial?

Rich: Our team debated if it was appropriate to have Toughman on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. After giving it much thought and with lots of input from the first responders who come out and race, we came to the conclusion that having the race on this date made it more special with the message being "We will persevere". This was the theme of the prayer done by Rev Anthony Stephens...who races every year.

Plus the race raised over $270,000 for 50 charities with the 9/11 Memorial at Croton Landing made from a piece of steel from the World Trade Center receiving a portion of every entry. This year we will be doubling the amount of charity money raised. We will also directly contribute funds to the 9/11 Memorial as well as the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption through the Toughkid's triathlon series Championship on Sept 8th. Our race allows racers as well as volunteers to fundraise for whatever charity they choose through the Toughman Community Fund.

        <div =align="center">

Paul: What are your goals this year?

Rich: Our goals for 2012 are threefold: first and foremost to give the age groupers a safe, great race experience. In that regard we have a CLOSED BIKE COURSE for 5 hrs. This is unprecedented in half iron circles. In fact we are one of the ONLY half iron race in the U.S. that will have this feature. This will enable all racers - especially first timers - to race hard without worrying about car traffic. Plus the new bike course will be faster with only 4 left turns and a lot less climbing. This will reduce climbing by 50% from the older course.

Next our goals are to grow an additional 20% which has been our annual growth rate since inception while at the same time giving the racers a big race feel.

Lastly, it is to get the public more involved in viewing the race. With this in mind, we will be doubling the amount of shuttles on race day with a dedicated shuttle that will take spectators into the town area during the event. As an added feature of our half trail run, we will be detouring the beginning of the run course through the Historic Van Cortlandt Manor trails so that runners can experience more of the natural beauty of Westchester.

Paul: Tell us more about the bike course?

Rich: This year's bike course will be closed to traffic with a scenic view of the Hudson River for more than 28 miles. This is safer, more scenic and will be much faster than in years past. With the dramatic growth of Toughman over the last 4 years it was necessary to make this change in order to make sure that racers were safe and to accommodate our present and future growth. This way racers will ride directly onto and off of the new bike course with no interactions with any cars. Our primary focus is first and always the safety of our age group athletes.

Paul: What will happen to the average bike speed on the course?

Rich: It will be much faster than last year as the amount of climbing will drop from 3800 to 1900 feet. Plus it is only 4 left hand turns.

Paul: How should people train differently this year? Fewer hills, more intervals?

Rich: We have a training clinic on Aug 18th that will take you on the old bike course. If you can ride that, the new one will be a piece of cake.

Paul: Do you have any other surprises in store for us this year?

Rich: First, expect all the same things that have made our race the "MUST DO NY Half Iron" the last 4 years: the 35 foot sailboat at the swim turn around, the 18 aid stations on the run, a volunteer crew that includes: cheerleaders, angels, cross country running groups, community groups, marching band, bagpipers, and "The Devil and Superman", a post race BBQ with chicken, beans, corn on the cob, post race massage by 50 therapists and over $25,000 worth of age group awards.

We have several other new additions this year that will add depth to our team as well. This allows us to give the racers a "big race feel" at an event that is only 30 minutes from NYC, NJ, CT, LI being the largest half iron within 3hrs of NYC.

But one thing you can bank on is that we have many new "surprises" for you racers on the run!

Paul: Thanks for your time, Rich. We're sure this year will be an even bigger success than last year.

Also New for 2012: TOUGHTEEN Triathlon!
The inaugural TOUGHTEEN Triathlon will take place in Croton Point Park Sunday September 9, 2012 as part of the Toughman Triathlon weekend festival. It features a Swim: 300 yards • Bike: 6 miles • Run: 2.5 miles

The inaugural Ironman 70.3 National Harbor race which was set to take place only 3 months from now on August 5, 2012, has been cancelled by WSEM, the race organizer.

Refunds will be issued within 30 days and will be credited to the card used for registration through the Active Network."

UPDATE:

The Ironman 70.3 National Harbor Triathlon was cancelled because not enough athletes were registered for the event.

Ironman asked us to stay silent, not post anything on social media and not send out any press releases so that the damage to Ironman's brand would be minimized. We were fools to agree and that was a big big mistake on our part.

We should have communicated immediately and told you the reason from the start. We were definitely wrong not to do so and apologize. The six figure financial loss from the event was more than we could manage.

This is the second triathlon event in Washington DC Metropolitan Area to be cancelled by WSEM this year, the other race which also has ties to the WTC was the Washington DC Triathlon, which was a race in the 5150 Triathlon Series. The event cancellation was related to the National Park Service denying a permit for the race.

These two highly visible triathlon event misfortunes have taken place since the Competitor Group annouced a multi-year partnership with Washington Sports & Event Management back in February.

Ironman St. George, which was announced in 2009 and took place for the first time in 2012, will be converted to an Ironman 70.3 Series event starting in 2013. The event which sold out its first year was described by most who participated as very difficult and challenging. Unlike other Ironman races in North America which sell out the same day registration opens, this race never achieved that again after its inaugural year.

In a candid conversation with someone from the World Triathlon Corporation in Kona, Ironman St. George was described as probably being the toughest race on the Ironman circuit, even harder than Ironman Lanzarote.

The early season race with scenic views and challenging course failed to attract the participants. Not even a change to the very difficult run course helped this year. It surely wasn't a race for the faint of heart. In comparison, Ironman Brazil which takes place a few weeks later in May has sold out the last couple of years. While the majority of people that register for the race are from South America, many American and foreigners participate. They still go even if it means traveling about 18-20 hours one way to get there, for the Americans. Yes, it has a smaller field size, in the 1,800 to 1,900 range, but still.

The 2012 Ironman St. George race will still take place on Saturday, May 5th. It will be a memorable day for those triathletes that go, participate and conquer the tough course St. George has to offer and they will be the last to do so.

Read the complete announcement from Ironman below:

Today, Ironman announced changes to Ironman St. George. Starting in 2013, the event will be converted to an Ironman 70.3 and will consist of a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run.

"We've listened to our athletes and they've told us that while they love St. George -- the people, the community and surroundings -- St. George does not work for them as a full-distance Ironman," said Andrew Messick, Chief Executive Officer of Ironman. "Our belief is that St. George will flourish as a 70.3 and we are pleased that we are continuing our relationship with St. George and with the state of Utah."

The swim course will follow a shorter loop through Sand Hollow Reservoir, the bike route will lead athletes along Red Hills Parkway through the brilliant scenery of Snow Canyon State Park, and the half-marathon will take participants up Red Hills Parkway and back. The finish line will still be located at Town Square.

"We welcome this new race as a continuation of the momentum we've started with Ironman St. George," said Kevin Lewis, Director of Sports Marketing with the St. George Convention and Tourism Office. "We estimate that the economic impact to our community will be similar to that of a full-distance Ironman, while the cost of hosting and the need for road closures and necessary services is reduced."

One of nearly 60 Ironman 70.3 events worldwide, Ironman 70.3 St. George is set to take place on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Athletes will compete for a professional prize purse of $15,000 and 75 age-group qualifying slots for the 2013 Ironman World Championship 70.3 scheduled for September at Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, Nev.

For more information on Ironman 70.3, visit www.ironman.com. Maps and other Ironman 70.3 St. George event information will be available starting June 1 on www.ironmanstgeorge.com. Back in October the Gloucester Fishermen Athletic Association, which took over the race, announced that the triathlon event had been cancelled.

"The Gloucester Fishermen Athletic Association has decided not to host the annual Gloucester Fisherman Triathlon in 2012, as we've done since its creation in 2009. The triathlon takes a huge amount of time and resources to organize and run, so the GFAA plans instead to focus on other efforts that better support our fundraising goals."

The triathlon event was a fundraising event for the athletic association from 2009 - 2011. The Sprint Distance triathlon had attracted many triathletes to the area and sold out each year.

The triathlon appeared to be coming back but efforts recently hit a snag as Bill Burnett of Streamline Events recently stated on the event website:

"Unfortunately, however, over the last month it has become clear that we do not have the 100% support of the community that all events like this need, particularly from interest groups and parties that have been involved with the management of races in Gloucester in the past."

Thus planning for the revival of the Gloucester Triathlon event has been cancelled.
Streamline Events along with the Salem YMCA have brought back the Witch City Triathlon, which was abruptly cancelled last year. The triathlon event will be staged pretty much like it has been in the past from Forest River Park in Salem, Massachusetts.

Triathlon: Witch City Triathlon
When: Sunday, July 29, 2012
Where: Forest River Park, Salem, Massachusetts
Divisions: Age Group, Relay
Website: www.witchcitytri.com

The Sprint Distance Triathlon will consist of a 1/2 mile Swim, 13 mile Bike, 3.2 mile Run. The swim will take place in the bay, water temperatures should be in the mid 60s. The bike course will head into Marblehead following Ocean Boulevard towards Marblehead Neck. The run course will out on the Marblehead Rail Trail on a fast and flat trail. Athletes will cross the finish line at Forest River Park and enjoy a spectacular morning with music brought to the event by The River 92.5 FM.

Registration is currently open for the new Witch City Triathlon. Know this, if you are considering signing up, the race field will be limited to 500 individuals and 25 relays, so register early. See the event website for details.

The addition of the Witch City Triathlon brings the number of events in New England under Streamline's management to six. The new Harvey Cedars races kicks off the season in June and finishes with the addition and re-branded Boston Triathlon in mid August.
Produced by Game On Sports Marketing Group, Inc., the race will be the first-ever multi-sports event to take place in Downtown West Palm Beach, featuring both Half-iron and Olympic distances.

"We are excited to bring the Motivation Man to West Palm Beach. We expect more than 1,000 athletes to participate and we're confident they will love the course and views," said Game On CEO and President Steven J. Tebon. "The new waterfront, City Commons and the first-rate facilities within the Clematis District add up to a world-class triathlon location that we hope to expand regionally and nationally in future years."

The Motivation Man will offer two race distances for endurance athletes that start and finish in the Clematis District. The 70.3-mile, half-iron race -- which is the fastest growing triathlon distance -- consists of a 1.2-mile swim in the Intracoastal Waterway, a 56-mile bike portion through several Palm Beach County cities and towns, and a 13.1-mile run course along Flagler Drive and the West Palm Beach waterfront. The Olympic distance race will feature a shorter course, consisting of a .94-mile swim, 25-mile bike and 6.5-mile run.

In addition to the races, the Motivation Man event will also feature a week of social events in Downtown West Palm Beach for participants and guests. The main events include a two-day Publix Health & Fitness Expo with local and national vendors, as well as a post-race party and awards ceremony on Clematis Street.
The inaugural MetaMan Bintan Triathlon which will also be host to the Southeast Asia Championship race will take place on September 15, 2012 on Bintan Island in the South China Sea. The island is part of the Riau Archipelago of Indonesia and is situated less than an hour away via ferry from the modern and culturally vibrant city of Singapore. Triathlon is not new to the island as the Bintan has played host to the Bintan Triathlon for several years now.

"Following participants repeated enthusiasm for the Bintan Triathlon and Tour de Bintan, providing a full iron distance race on the idyllic sport friendly island was the natural progression." At Singapore's door step, tropical Bintan Island provides all elements for an epic journey.

Triathlon: MetaMan Bintan Triathlon
When: Saturday, September 15, 2012
Where: Bintan Island, Indonesia
Distances: Iron, Half
Website: www.metamanbintan.com

Individuals as well as Relay teams will be able to tackle either the full MetaMan or Half Iron distance events. The standard distances will be MetaMan: 3.8km Swim, 180km Bike, 42.2km Run. Half Iron: 1.9km Swim, 90km Bike, 21.1km Run. Either race will be a challenge for triathletes to conquer, and a great accomplishment after finishing.

"We've been dreaming years for this event to take place, so had plenty of time to brew up a unique course that features all the distinctive features that Bintan Island has to offer."

Swim Course
Nirwana Beach Club provides the tropical backdrop that a Long Distance Triathlon in Indonesia deserves. The serene white sand beach with waving palm trees will for one morning be disturbed by the MetaMan swim start spectacular. Enjoy the clear blue waters to find a good pair of feet to draft off.

Bintan Island is a cycling haven. Good roads combined with varied terrain and scenery will keep everyone entertained throughout the bike phase. Enjoy the lush green jungle (watch out for monkeys!), the villagers cheering you, the vistas at the reservoir and coastal road and the picturesque golf course of Bintan Resorts. The hills make for an honest course that will separate the uber-cyclist from the rest.

Run Course
Is still being fine-tuned, but will be a four-lap run course that guarantees a lot of support from the spectators. It will include the sculpted gardens of Nirwana Gardens, which provide some welcome shade for the early finishers.
A total prize purse of US$60,000 is available to reward professional athletes competing in the full MetaMan. Professional interested in race should contact race organizers.

The triathlon event is being organized by MetaSport which specializes in Training Services and Event Management in the sports of Triathlon, Swimming, Cycling and Running, in Singapore and Southeast Asia.

Registration is open. If you are looking for an iron distance challenge or even a half, in an exotic location, then this might be the race for you. Visit: www.metamanbintan.com for further details.

The entire course is set to be unveiled at Training Camp on April 14-15th. Triathletes can also get a taste of what the island has in store with the Bintan Triathlon on May 26th which features for Olympic and Sprint Distance triathlon races.

Bintan is very close to the Equator. Hence, tropical climate is dominant all through the year with two distinct seasons. MetaMan is taking place during the dry southwest monsoon season which runs from June to October.

The island has an "insular character" with a constant temperature averaging at 26 °C. Sea temperature is around 29 °C all year around. On race day the sunrise is at 5:55am and sunset at 6:02pm.

Nirwana Gardens is the official host of the MetaMan Bintan and offers a broad variety of accommodation option for different budgets. They have the capacity to accommodate all the participants of the MetaMan. Nirwana Gardens is an integrated resort that is comprised of 5 different beachfront resorts spanning across 330 hectares of lush tropical land and powder-soft beaches. Staying at Nirwana Gardens ensures that you will be within walking distance (500me max) of the race office, transition zone, start & finish, race briefing, carbo-loading party and athletes' garden.

Bintan provides an experience of endless beaches, a wide variety of international-class resorts, and tropical holiday activities, including golf, spas, and water sports.
It is Triton's hope that our partnership with MMS will take triathlons in Indiana to the next level.

Triton is not going to unveil all of our secrets for the year, but here are just a few tastings that Triton is brewing up for this inaugural season:

Transition Party: Between the June 9 and July 28 races, Triton will be having a Transition Party. What better way to transition from the first part of the Series into the second part of the Series.

Post-Race Recovery: Triton understands the hours of commitment and dedication for all triathletes. Following each race, athletes and volunteers are invited to attend a Post-Race Recovery Party at a central Indiana restaurant. This is a great chance for athletes and their friends and family to celebrate their accomplishments from the day.

As part of the agreement with the Challenge Family, during this transition year the ETU has made an exception to the rules to allow as many people as possible to have the honour of racing for their country and the quota rule per age category will not be enforced.

To this effect, every European athlete who has a start license with their national federation and is already entered in Challenge Kraichgau or Challenge Roth will automatically be on the start list of the ETU Championships, there is no requirement for them to make a separate entry. In addition, the rule for wearing national race suits has been relaxed so they are no longer compulsory for Age Group Athletes.

"It is extremely important for both Challenge and the ETU that we deliver the most successful European Championships for the athletes at Kraichgau and Roth. This is why we have made the process as easy as possible for the athletes to be able to say they have raced for their country. All the usual additional costs will be covered by Challenge," said Felix Walchshöfer, CEO of Challenge Family. "The race suits are not mandatory but we encourage the athletes to think about getting their national suit as it'd be awesome to see as many as possible proudly sporting their national colours."

The Kraichgau ETU Challenge Half Distance Triathlon European Championships on 10 June will feature a field of 1,500 athletes while Roth ETU Challenge Long Distance Triathlon European Championships on 8 July will have over 2,000 racing out of the 5,000 strong Challenge Roth field.

Mr Walchshöfer went on to say that those athletes who usually race under a day license could also be eligible to be part of the ETU Championship field.

"All athletes who have a one day pass should get in touch with their national federation to secure a start license before the race. Challenge will then transfer them into the ETU Championships."

Some additional slots to both races are available via the national Federations on a first come, first serve basis.

For further information please visit the European Triathlon Union website europe.triathlon.org

Set to take place on June 23, 2013, Revolution3 Williamsburg will hold a Half and Olympic Distance race steps away from historic Colonial Williamsburg. Pro and age group athletes are invited to compete in both distances. For the Professional athletes, cash prizes and series points will be awarded.

Triathlon: Revolution3 Williamsburg
When: Sunday, June 23, 2013
Where: Williamsburg, Virginia
Divisions: Professional, Age Group, Relay
Website: www.rev3tri.com

The half distance consists of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run, while the Olympic distance consists of a .9 mile swim, 28 mile bike and a 6.2 mile run. The swim will take place in the James River, near the historic Jamestown Island. Athletes will then transition to the bike portion of the race, an out and back course that meanders through the quaint countryside of James City County and finishes on the campus of the College of William and Mary. The course is mostly flat, with a few rolling hills to keep you honest. From there, the run course loops around the City of Williamsburg and back through the college campus. Like the bike course, the run is mostly flat, with a few hills scattered throughout. Athletes will finish in heart of William and Mary and just steps away from some of the most historic sites within the United States.

Williamsburg, Virginia is home to famous Colonial Williamsburg, the nation's largest living history museum that introduces visitors to life in 18th century America. The historic Jamestown Island and Yorktown Battlefield are nearby, earning Williamsburg the nickname of the "Historic Triangle." Visitors may also jump into modern times with a visit to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, which has over 350 acres of roller coasters, water parks, rides and attractions. Laser tag, haunted dinner theatres, bowling alleys and more are a part of the area, where there really is something for everyone.

"We're very excited to add Williamsburg to our race lineup. Williamsburg is a great fit for a family experience, which is one of our biggest factors in choosing a race location," said Charlie Patten, president of Rev3. "In addition to a beautiful and challenging course, there is a wealth of opportunities for families to explore in the area. You are literally steps away from Historic Williamsburg"

"The Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance & Sports Williamsburg welcome the REV3 (Revolution 3)Williamsburg half and Olympic triathlon to the Historic Triangle and look forward to working with the team at REV 3 to make this a premier sporting event. The unmatched combination of hands-on history, thrilling theme parks, world-class golf, arts and culture, fine dining and shopping will delight participants and their families." - Bob Harris, Senior Vice President of Tourism for the Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Alliance.
