This past weekend the 3-time Ironman World Champion was back in Roth to show people that she was back in shape after recovering from a bike crash earlier this year. This time Wellington totally SHOCKED the world with her amazing 8:19:13 performance at the 2010 Challenge Roth triathlon. Wellington's world record performance was comprised of 50:28 swim, a 4:36:33 bike, and a 2:48:54 marathon, which shattered her previous world record mark by over 12 minutes.

Tri247.com, a triathlon resource website in the UK has posted an interview with the amazing Chrissie Wellington after her race in Roth:

The world record
Did you think she could produce that sort of time before the race? "Absolutely not. I had spoken to Belinda (Granger) before the race, and said that I thought if I could get the record, it would be by seconds or maybe a minute or so. I really didn't expect to be able to go that fast. I truly didn't know if I could swim or bike any faster than last year. I was confident of my running, as that is where I knew I had improved, but to put it all together on one day...it was more than I could have hoped for."

The perfect day?
"To be honest, I'm not sure it was absolutely perfect conditions - there did seem to be a fair bit of wind on the bike course, and perhaps last year may have been slightly better conditions wise. I don't think you ever get a perfect race, that is one of the great things about this sport, but give or take a few small things, I think that was pretty close to perfect across the disciplines so I'm very happy and proud with that."

Here what she has to say about:
- Recovery
- The crash - a good thing?
- That run...
- Rest of the season
- Changes for Roth?
- Can you go faster...

The perfect bag you want to pack for your next race or visit to the gym.

We've seen carbon fiber used in a myriad of different products over the years, but this might be the first time we've seen it employed in a flexible piece of luggage. The Carbon Fiber Airstream Duffle Bag ($285) is made from waterproof carbon fiber sailcloth, giving it a glossy, textured look, that's complemented by three gusseted zippered pockets, a lockable, wide mouth dual zipper main opening, an adjustable, removable shoulder strap, and a padded handle wrap. Size: 26" x 11" x 12" [via Uncrate]

You won't have any trouble finding this bag at the gym or in the transition area but you sure will make other carbon fiber addicts very jealous.
Do you wish your sex life didn't revolve around 5am workouts? You're not alone. In her debut publication How to Date a Triathlete, Lauren McVey-Harsch offers a personal and humorous look inside her relationship with an Ironman triathlete.

Spanning the globe with her husband on "racations," How to Date a Triathlete shares McVey-Harsch's triathlon stories as a spectator, volunteer, travel companion and loving wife.
Born a spastic quadraplegic, Rick Hoyt was written off by numerous doctors. They advised his parents, Dick and Judy, to put their firstborn son in an institution. But Rick's parents refused. Determined to give their son every opportunity that "normal" kids had, they made sure to include Rick in everything they did, especially with their other two sons, Rob and Russ.

But home was one thing, the world at large, another. Repeatedly rebuffed by school administrators who resisted their attempts to enroll Rick in school, Rick's mother worked tirelessly to help pass a landmark bill, Chapter 766, the first special-education reform law in the country. As a result, Rick and other physically disabled kids were able to attend public school in Massachusetts.

But how would Rick communicate when he couldn't talk? To overcome this daunting obstacle, Dick and Judy worked with Dr. William Crochetiere, then chairman of the engineering department at Tufts University, and several enterprising graduate students, including Rick Foulds, to create the Tufts Interactive Communication device (TCI). In the Hoyt household, it became known as the "Hope machine," as it enabled Rick to create sentences by pressing his head against a metal bar. For the first time ever, Rick was able to communicate.

Then one day Rick asked his dad to enter a charity race, but there was a twist. Rick wanted to run too. Dick had never run a race before, but more challenging still, he would have to push his son's wheelchair at the same time. But once again, the Hoyts were determined to overcome whatever obstacle was put in their way. Picture: Dick Hoyt pushing his son, Rick, in their first Boston Marathon (1981).
It's a feat marking the ultimate achievement in the sport. 17 Hours to Glory commemorates this dramatic quest with 17 compelling stories that allow readers to experience the competition firsthand. 17 Hours to Glory: Extraordinary Stories from the Heart of Triathlon is available now in bookstores, tri shops, and online.

These are stories of ordinary and unlikely heroes: 17 Hours to Glory tells the inspiring stories of a sedentary secretary with all the wrong habits taking up triathlon to lose weight, a nun who races to bring attention to her causes, and two men with a rivalry so intense that their disabilities fade into the shadows.

Some will become Ironman champions, some will overcome all odds just to finish within 17 hours. All will reveal tremendous athleticism, unbelievable capacity for suffering, and true strength of character.

The personal stories of triathlon's most epic characters come to life in this book, beginning with the famous story of Julie Moss's determination to reach the finish line, paving the way for future champions like Mark Allen and Paula Newby-Fraser, and a new generation of superstars in Peter Reid and Chrissie Wellington.

Triathlon's most dynamic heroes are candidly portrayed in 17 Hours to Glory, a book that puts no limits on the possibilities of the human spirit.

If you need a reason or you are looking for motivation or inspiration then this might help. Hey, if they can do it, why can't you?

ATHLETE is a new sports documentary that examines the growing popularity of endurance sports and profiles four everyday individuals -- a cancer survivor, a blind senior citizen and twin sisters -- who compete in marathons and triathlons and are redefining what it means to be an 'athlete'.

"During those three marathons, I noticed the diverse group of individuals running these races. Not only in terms of the different sizes, shapes and ages of the participants, but the reasons behind each person's commitment to train and run 26.2 miles. It changed my view of what defines an athlete and inspired me to make a film about it." -- David Lam

The ATHLETE documentary features:
Jenny Hinshaw: 38-year-old cancer survivor (Hodgkin's lymphoma) and triathlete who trains and competes despite living with complications from chemotherapy and radiation.

Artie Elefant: 61-year-old blind (retinitis pigmentosa) Achilles member who takes part in the New York City Marathon, 25 years after he ran the race as a sighted runner.

Carrie Neveldine and Kellie Smirnoff: 35-year-old twin sisters who try to balance family and work while training for their first Ironman Triathlon in Lake Placid, NY.

"I just keep thinking of the finish line and how that's gonna feel and that's what's really getting me through it." -- Kellie Smirnoff

The ATHLETE DVD was release on March 9th, 2010 and is available for purchase at athletemovie.com and at major retailers including Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Best Buy and Netflix. MSRP: $19.99

ATHLETE was filmed on location at the following races:
• New York City Marathon
• New Jersey Marathon
• Miami Marathon (FL)
• Ironman Lake Placid Triathlon (NY)
The site gets a fresh bold new look and some additional up-front and behind the scenes features. It looks like the old site (see picture) and has the same content, but it's nothing like the old site.

The new magazine like home page on TRIJUICE.com features a mixture of content, new and old across all of the published categories we feature. No more digging for content from weeks back, you can see most of it at a glance.

• At the top of the page, we'll feature a selection of posts that you should make sure to check out.

• The main page will show you the last thirteen articles we have posted with just a short glimpse into the article.

• At the bottom we have four categories that will have links to the last articles in those categories.

• The navigation menu bar will get you to a category quickly to see of our posts in that group.

• The right sidebar will highlight certain tools or pages and have ads from our partners.

If you miss the blog look and feel that we had before that showed off most of the content at a glance, well no worries, we have an option for that as well. Just point your browser to www.trijuice.com/blog.

An additional advantage of the upgrade will benefit mobile web users. The site looks and works great on mobile phones, check it out, just point your mobile web browser to either www.trijuice.com or www.trijuice.com/blog

We are still tweaking things to make it even a better site, but the overall new look and feel will stay the same. Keep an eye out for new announcements and features in the near future.

We'd like to thank PRO IT Service for their help in getting our site updated. If it wasn't for them, you wouldn't see or have what you see today via TRIJUICE 2.0
