Green and serene, Nevis is truly one of the remaining unspoiled places and proudly carries the name "Queen of the Caribees." From the top of the 3,232-foot (A/N: 985m) Nevis Peak to the depths of the clear waters offshore, there is a world of flora and fauna to be explored.

"As Thailand recovers from the effects of political turmoil earlier this year, events such as this are crucial to rebuilding tourist confidence," said Laguna Phuket Triathlon event director Debbie Dionysius.

"Close to 1,000 international entrants are expected for each event and global attention will be focused on Phuket. This will be a sporting and tourism showcase of the best that Thailand has to offer the world," she said.

Activities staged throughout the week will allow entrants to rub shoulders with professional triathletes - some of whom have entered both endurance events and will be at Laguna Phuket for the whole period. Training sessions, entertainment and social events are planned to provide all entrants with opportunities to mix with the professionals.

Laguna Phuket, a resort of deluxe hotel and villa properties on the northwest coast of the island, was awarded the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship in recognition of its world-class facilities, reputation for staging major athletic events, and ease of travel from all major cities.

The Laguna Phuket Triathlon is dubbed "The Race of Legends," due to its ability to attract and challenge the world's best professional triathletes.

These have included the likes of Simon Lessing, Craig Alexander, Paula Newby-Fraser, Michelle Jones, Samantha McGlone and Chrissie Wellington. The 2009 event was won by Olympic triathlon gold medalist Jan Frodeno of Germany.

Now Laguna Phuket has ramped-up the challenges of its triathlon course to meet the increased demands of an Ironman 70.3. "The Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship will be a turbocharged version of our triathlon course," said Debbie Dionysius.

For the first time the bike course will run into the picturesque and undulating northeast coast, courtesy of a purpose-built bike ramp across Highway 402, the island's main north-south traffic artery.

The new bike ramp is being built on an existing pedestrian bridge, after Laguna Phuket and the World Triathlon Corporation gained approval from the Phuket government.

"The ramp traverse will be a spectacular highlight adding a cycle-cross element as athletes will be have to dismount and push their bikes up the ramped foot bridge," said Debbie Dionysius

Remote / Online spectators would be able to see live updates, have access to the athlete tracker and at times see live video coverage.

UPDATE:
Both sites were the target of a cyberattack designed to deny users access to the website, which made it difficult for fans to follow the progress of participants at Ford Ironman Louisville and Subaru Ironman Canada. Ironman.com Faced Cyberattack
The website received a much needed upgraded / facelift earlier this year. The live race coverage went from a small fixed size window to a full-fledged website which provided additional space for race coverage, advertising and an upgraded video delivery method.

All was working well in the morning for the start of Ironman Louisville with coverage from Greg Welch and Chris McDonald. During the live coverage, they showed some pre-race video coverage from Lisa Bentley who was up in Penticton, Canada covering Ironman Canada. It appeared that the main video coverage was going to focus on Louisville, since the note below the Ironman Canada video said that video coverage would begin at 11 am local race time. All was going well during the initial hours of the live race coverage.

Some 6 hours into the Ironman Canada race video coverage was showing some TV show from a Canadian TV station. Race updates still showed.

At some point in the late afternoon the site became unreliable and slow. People were unable to access IronmanLIVE.com or Ironman.com The stream of twitter messages started flowing, wondering if there was an issue and reporting their disgust. People around the world became frustrated not being able to track an athlete. RaceHQ reported that the site was reporting a denial-of-service attack, but we have been unable to verify that.

ZotOConnor Aug 29, 10:53pm via TwInbox
OK Ironman live you have epic fail. Instead of live streaming Ironman canada, you are streaming the emmies on CTV....

The Ironmanlouisville.com website had no information on the outage but the Ironman.ca site did and was providing regular tracking updates via a link on their site for people wanting to see how people were doing. Unfortunately, most people didn't know to go to that site.

Sometime after 10pm CST the sites started to come back to life slowly. It took a little longer but you were able to get to the athlete tracker. About 30 minutes later, the site was almost fully functional. You could see updates, get to the athlete tracker but the video coverage was sporadic. The video coverage the Ironman Canada was showing the TV show Big Brother and then coverage from the 62nd Annual Emmy Awards. We and others tweeted something and after that the button for the video feed on the Ironman Canada website disappeared, strange...

Today all seems to be working well, but no updates on what happened. Yes, today people can see how their loved ones or friends did, but that's old news now. We were tracking two friends, one at each race going for a Kona slot and wanted to see how they were doing.

Today's technology is supposed to bring thing to life and with no news on what was going on it became frustrating for many. It's quite unfortunate to see this type of coverage from an organization that runs these world class events all over the world. Technology is GREAT when things work well and can be your enemy when it fails. We are pretty sure they will get this figured out one way or another...
Ambrose, who has seen podium finishes at Ironman 70.3 Cancun and Ironman 70.3 California, took the title more than 11 minutes ahead of the second male, Martin Jensen (DNK). His winning time was 8:29:59. Keat, the 2007 Ironman Australia winner, crossed the finish line with more than an 11-minute lead over second-place finisher, Kim Loeffler (USA). Keat's official time was 9:33:15.

Exiting the water in third, Ambrose was more than three minutes behind John Flanagan and among Ironman Champions Jason Shortis (AUS) and Max Longree (GER), who won the event in 2008. Ambrose took the lead early in the bike and maintained it throughout the rest of the race, posting the fastest bike split of the day (4:31:36) and claiming his first title.

Keat exited the water in fifth place behind defending champion, Nina Kraft (GER), Maki Nishiuchi (JPN) and Americans Hillary Biscay and Bree Wee. In a similar fashion to Ambrose, Keat pulled ahead in the early portion of the bike, posted the day's fastest bike split (5:08:26) and won with a substantial lead on the second-place finisher.

The company's three airlines Mexicana Airlines, MexicanaClick and MexicanaLink are all affected.

Mexico City, August 27, 2010 - Nuevo Grupo Aeronáutico, S.A. de C.V. ("Grupo Mexicana") announced this morning that as a result of the group's delicate financial situation when it changed owners a week ago, compounded by failure to reach agreements that would allow for the capitalization of its three airlines, Mexicana Airlines, MexicanaClick and MexicanaLink flights will suspend operations until further notice as of midday (12:00 p.m.) on Saturday, August 28, 2010.

Today's decision is a painful one for the 8,000-strong Grupo Mexicana family, but we will continue seeking out ways of securing the company's long-term financial viability, so our passengers can once again enjoy the quality services they are accustomed to. We hope to be back in the air soon and would like to thank everyone involved in this process for their support and understanding.

Over $100,000 in prize money will be up for grabs throughout the weekend of racing.

"We are very excited to host the ITU Elite Sprint Triathlon World Championship and the ITU Team Triathlon World Championship in Lausanne, a city with a history of great sporting events," said ITU President Marisol Casado. "The distances are short, exciting and we think the spectators and viewers will enjoy watching our athletes race at such a high intensity. The shorter distances present a great opportunity for our younger athletes to compete in the sport in a sustainable way."

Competitors in the ITU Elite Sprint Triathlon World Championship will complete a 750-meter swim, 20-km bike and 5-km run. Each of the four athletes in the ITU Team Triathlon World Championship will complete a 275-meter swim, 6 km bike and 1.5-km run. Each team will be comprised of two men and two women, racing in the order of female-male-female-male. After each athlete finishes his or her swim-bike-run segment, he or she will tag the next athlete in the relay for the exchange.

The Elite Men's Sprint World Championship will be the first event of the weekend, kicking off at 9:30 a.m. local time on Saturday, August 21. Headlining the men's field is Aussie Brad Kahlefeldt, who is currently ranked fourth in the world. He'll be contested by American Jarrod Shoemaker (currently ranked seventh) and Swiss standout Sven Riederer, who will have home field advantage on his side in Lausanne. Other top men competing on Saturday include Great Britain's Jonathan Brownlee, France's David Hauss and veteran Greg Bennett, who will race under an ITU flag, as he is in the process of switching from racing for Australia to the United States.

The Elite Women will dive in Lake Geneva to start the Sprint World Championship at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Current world number one Emma Moffatt of Australia heads into the race as the favourite, but she'll have plenty of tough competition, especially from Sweden's Lisa Norden, who is currently ranked third. Switzerland's top two women, Daniela Ryf and Nicola Spirig, will look to take the world title on their home turf. Other top women racing on Saturday include South Africa's Kate Roberts, American Laura Bennett and France's Jessica Harrison.

The weekend of racing will wrap up with the Team Triathlon World Championship at 2:30 p.m. local time on Sunday. The 2009 ITU Team Triathlon World Championship was hosted by Hy-Vee in Des Moines, Iowa, alongside the prestigious Hy-Vee ITU Triathlon Elite Cup, with the Swiss Team taking home top honours, topping Australia by only eight seconds. Team Canada rounded out the podium. Twenty relays representing 17 countries will contest this year's Team championship, with Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand fielding two squads.

The 4 x mixed triathlon relay format was on display this Thursday at the first-ever Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. The Youth athletes competed on Continental relays, with the European 1 team of Alois Knabl (AUT) Eszter Dudas (HUN), Fanny Beisaron (ISR) and Miguel Valente Fernandes (POR) taking home the gold medal. This new caffeine-free beverage meets the needs of fitness enthusiasts and others leading active lifestyles who desire increased workout capacity, sustained energy and muscle protection to enjoy sports and fitness activities day after day. EAS Peak is designed to be consumed before physical activity to help maximize performance.

EAS Peak™, new from Abbott's EAS® brand, brings genuine innovation to the sports nutrition category. EAS Peak is the only performance beverage with the proprietary P3™ technology, along with 10 grams of protein, to help athletes and fitness enthusiasts get more out of their training regimen or sporting event. EAS Peak's P3 technology helps to:

• PUSH - increase workout capacity
• PERFORM - sustain energy release
• PROTECT - reduce muscle breakdown

Nutrition Features and Benefits
The EAS Peak performance beverage changes the game in sports nutrition with P3 technology, a unique blend of specialized ingredients including:

• Beta-alanine - Contains 1.1 grams of beta-alanine1, an amino acid used to produce carnosine in the muscles. Carnosine buffers exercise-related acidity in the muscles to help delay fatigue.

• Isomaltulose - Contains 15 grams of isomaltulose, a slowly digested carbohydrate that sustains blood glucose levels, a source of muscle energy, over a longer period of time compared with other carbohydrates.

• HMB - Contains 1 gram of HMB (beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate). HMB is a proprietary ingredient that can help slow muscle protein breakdown while promoting the production of new muscle tissue.

EAS® Peak™ is an excellent source of high-quality protein (10 grams per serving). It also contains 25 grams of carbohydrates (15 grams isomaltulose), 150 Calories and less than 1 gram of fat.

Fittest CEO® Title up for grabs

BOULDER, Colo. - In addition to being called 'CEO', there are CEOs all across the USA that would love to also have the title of 'Triathlete' beside their name. And now, thanks to a collaboration between the world leader in sport competitions for CEOs, CEO Challenges, and the Amica 19.7 Sprint Triathlon Series, hundreds of CEOs will be able to take on their first ever triathlon, and enter into a new phase in their already successful lives.

The Amica 19.7 is a series of short 'entry level' triathlons designed to attract people who have the desire to complete a triathlon, but are daunted by the Olympic, Half, or Full Ironman distance. Each race consists of a .5 mile-swim, 16.1 mile-bike, and 3.1 mile-run (19.7 miles).

"For years we have been looking for a way to attract more CEOs to the incredible sport of triathlon," stated Ted Kennedy, President of CEO Challenges. "Even though they are entering middle age and would love to get back into shape, the CEOs we talked to were nervous about taking on all the training required to finish even a mid-distance triathlon. Now, through our partnership with the Amica 19.7 Series, we can finally offer them the opportunity to race with us in a triathlon that is, quick frankly, very do-able."

The Amica 19.7 Series takes place in 10 major cities throughout the USA in 2010, and plans are in place to add more locations in 2011. Starting with the Phoenix event in November, 2010, each race will now provide CEOs the option (at no extra cost) to sign up for the Chartis CEO Triathlon Challenge. The CEO Challenge will include many great perks, such as special colored swim caps for easy identification, specified bike rack location, no line registration, awards to the top CEO finishers, and, best of all, the Title of that city's Fittest CEO® to the winner!

"We fully support the CEO Triathlon Challenge at each of our race venues," stated John Mathews, President of Eident Sports, organizers of the events. "We love the fact that these CEOs are leading by example, and embracing a culture of health & wellness. Working with CEO Challenges, we will also be offering Corporate Relay and Corporate Challenge events designed to include a number of the CEO's employees. Of course the side benefit to having a fit company is the significant reduction in health care costs, which are quickly becoming one of the major expenses CEOs have to deal with."

Once a person signs up for the CEO Challenge they will be given the option for a number of fantastic upgrades designed to make their first race experience truly exceptional, including personal coaching, VIP passes, the option for a Corporate VIP Tent at the finish line, and race-day guidance and support from CEO Challenges' staff of experienced triathletes (including five-time world triathlon champion Simon Lessing!).

To sign up for the Chartis CEO Triathlon Challenge, C-level Executives simply to go the Amica 19.7 Series website, pick the desired race location, and register online. Information on training plans, VIP passes, upgrades, and the Corporate Relay and Challenge options can be found at www.ceochallenges.com/corporate.

One of the world's most difficult triathlons boasts 400 foot sand ladder and strong currents.

San Francisco, Calif. (August 11, 2010) - This summer, athletes from across the U.S. and as young as 12 years old will attempt what was once thought to be impossible: a treacherous swim from the nation's former high-security federal prison, Alcatraz, to the San Francisco mainland as they kick off the inaugural San Francisco Triathlon at Alcatraz.

Athletes hailing from as far away as New York, Texas, Florida, Massachusetts and Illinois will gather in San Francisco for the event, managed by Tri-California Events. Elite participants racing this year include Melanie McQuaid, three-time X-Terra Mountain Bike Champion from Canada; Ben Collins of Washington, who just won the San Francisco Triathlon at Treasure Island; and Brian Fleischmann, the 2008 Tri-California Elite Series Champion from Colorado.

In addition, more than 100 athletes from the triathlon's designated beneficiary organizations, The Challenged Athletes Foundation and Team In Training will also participate.

Furthermore, with a growing number of women participating in triathlons, Tri-California Events and San Francisco sporting-goods retailer, Sports Basement, are partnering together to host a series of pre-racing events exclusive to Bay Area women. The events will include a training session and live Q&A, designed for women already participating in the triathlon or those who would like to still sign up. Together, Sports Basement and Tri-California hope to take the away the intimidation factor and train women for a memorable event.

"While swimming from Alcatraz is one of the most challenging feats an athlete can attempt, the many groups participating in the inaugural San Francisco Triathlon at Alcatraz speak to the sense of community a triathlon creates," said Terry Davis, Tri-California Events, President. "Between the grueling swim, hills and sand run, our athletes will truly push themselves, demonstrating the physical and mental preparation and endurance needed to compete."

The International Distance Triathlon is set to begin Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 7:00 a.m. PST, where athletes will jump from a boat in the San Francisco Bay, stationed just off the shores of the island of Alcatraz (1.2 miles). And, unlike the prisoners who once tried unsuccessfully to escape from Alcatraz, there will be boats and kayaks standing by for assistance.

Following the chilly, 55 degree swim made up of strong currents and under-water life, athletes will jump on their bikes to navigate the hills of San Francisco with sharp turns, fast descents and tiring climbs through the streets of the Presidio, Lincoln Park and out to the Great Highway and JFK Drive. The bike portion will last 25 miles, the longest triathlon in San Francisco.

With two-thirds of the race completed, triathletes will take in the beautiful scenery of the San Francisco Bay, Golden Gate Bridge, etc. as they run west for seven miles to Baker Beach. Here, they'll encounter the famous 400 step "AVIA Sand Ladder." They'll compete for new running shoes in this AVIA Sand Ladder Challenge, where they will be timed from the base to the top of the ladder.

A lifestyle festival will be held with "Breakout demonstrations" and "Ball and Chain Clinics," and will showcase San Francisco businesses that will feature nutrition, green living, parent resources, fitness studios, gear, triathlon clubs, endurance sports and more. Get out of solitary confinement and join the festival on Saturday, August 28, 2010 between 12:00 and 5:00 p.m. PST, and Sunday until 3:00 p.m., at the Marina Green in San Francisco, Calif.

To register for the triathlon or for more information, please visit www.tricalifornia.com. Once online registration closes, on-site registration will be available.

With only 8,400 residents, the ski resort in the Austrian Alps will be the smallest city to host a Series race this year. The quaint village is renowned for having some of the most difficult ski runs in all of Europe, including the world famous Streif Slope.

The surplus of steep climbs surrounding Kitzbühel should make for one of the more challenging bike courses of the season, which bodes well for the stronger cyclists. One of the top cyclists in the women's field will be Switzerland's Nicola Spirig, who won round three of the Series in Madrid. The reigning European champion took second in Kitzbühel last season, and will look to use her power on the bike to move up one spot this year. To do that, Spirig will have to top Aussie Emma Moffatt, who won here last year and is currently ranked first in the world. Moffatt has yet to win a race this season, but finished on the podium in Sydney, Seoul and Hamburg.

New Zealand's Andrea Hewitt sits second in the world rankings, but has also been winless this season. Like Moffatt, consistency has been key to Hewitt's success, with the Kiwi finishing in the top six in all four Series events in which she has competed.

Sweden's Lisa Norden, who won less than a month ago in Hamburg, also enjoys challenging bike courses and will no doubt look forward to the hills of Kitzbühel. Other top women competing in Austria include 21-year-old Canadian Paula Findlay, who won three weeks ago in London, super-runner Emma Snowsill of Australia, and Brit Helen Jenkins, who finished fifth in Kitzbühel in 2009.

After back-to-back wins in Hamburg and London, the men's favourite in Austria has to be Spain's Javier Gomez, who has made 29-minute 10K run-splits routine this season. The Spaniard will have to duel with reigning world champ Alistair Brownlee of Great Britain for the fourth time this season. After winning in Madrid and at the European Championships in Ireland, Brownlee faltered in London, suffering of heat exhaustion at the finish and only managing a 10th-place finish. Brownlee and Gomez finished one-two, respectively, in Austria last year, with the Brit finishing eight seconds ahead.

After finishing second in Hamburg and third in London, Germany's Jan Frodeno holds the number one world ranking, with a lead of almost 200 points over Gomez. Another top-four finish for Frodeno will have the German heading into the Budapest Grand Final as the points leader.

Other contenders for the men's title in Austria include red-hot Aussies Brad Kahlefeldt and Courtney Atkinson, and the always tough Russian duo of Alexander Brukhankov and Dmitry Polyansky. New Zealand's Bevan Docherty, who won the opening round of the Series in Sydney, rounds out the top men's contenders.

Live text, timing and video from Kitzbühel will be available on www.triathlon.org/tv. The men's race kicks off at 2pm local time on Saturday, with the women to follow at 2pm on Sunday.

The Triathlon Camps will take place all over Europe and in the United States. They will also be working with other top coaches including TrainingBible Elite Coaches Jim Vance and USA Triathlon Developmental Coach of the Year, Adam Zucco.

Tri Dynamic aims to offer 'more than just a training camp'. They would like their customers to have a fun experience while learning from the very best coaches out there including Joe Friel, Jim Vance and Adam Zucco. "We'd like you to come away from our camps a smarter athlete knowing that you can improve on many levels, not just through more training." To do so they have also selected some of the best training venues, facilities and hotels so not to compromise on comfort and luxury just because you're on a training camp.

The first training event offering will be in Europe with the Jim Vance Swim Seminars which will take place at Hampton outdoor pool in London on September 11-12, 2010. This clinic is designed for triathletes and coaches as an opportunity to learn and understand the principles of triathlon swimming and apply this directly to athletes. Participants will have their swim technique analyzed on video for immediate feedback.

The second event on the calendar will be in the USA, Joe Friel Laying the Foundations Testing Camp in Scottsdale, Arizona. The training camp dates will be October 22-29, 2010. This camp will be strictly limited to 20 participants and is designed specifically for triathletes to get the most out of their Winter Training. Joe will be assisted by Adam Zucco on this camp.

"This is not your standard swim-bike-run camp. It focuses on exactly what I do with the athletes I coach at the start of their winter training." states Joe Friel "Each athlete is tested for VO2max and other important physiological metrics. Each also has a physical assessment by a physical therapist who looks for potential injuries and areas where strength, range of motion or other interventions could improve performance. I also have a bike fit done for them by a professional fitter. By the time the camp is done I always feel as if we are a great deal closer to achieving the athlete's goals. I think you'll feel that way, also."

Other triathlon training camp offerings by Tri Dynamic in 2011 include:
Potts, an Olympian and 2007 Ironman 70.3 World Champion, took the title in 3:46:50. Dibens, the current Ironman 70.3 World Champion, crossed the line in 4:19:46.

Potts, who was first out of the water, was among two-time Ironman World Champion and Boulder resident, Tim DeBoom, Australia's Stephen Hackett and Bermuda's Tyler Butterfield. Hackett took the lead early in the bike and entered T2 in front, but was overtaken by Potts before the first run aid station. Butterfield's 1:15:21 half-marathon provided the fastest run split of the day and a second-place finish.

Dibens showed her strength in all three disciplines and lead the women's race from start to finish. Exiting the water four seconds ahead of American Rebecca Witinok-Huber, Dibens maintained a blistering 25-mph pace on the bike, completing the 56 miles in 2:12:53. She began the run more than five minutes ahead of the next competitor and added another Ironman 70.3 victory to her resume. Dibens raced against Americans Jessica Meyers and Uli Bromme, who posted 1:28 half-marathons to finish in third and fourth place, respectively.

Steady sunshine and temperatures above 33 degrees made it a hot day of triathlon racing. Philip Graves (GBR) won the race covering 1km of swimming, 100km of cycling and 10km of running with a total time of 3:13:43. Desiree Ficker (USA) dominated the female race and finished first in 3:37:02. 74 relays composed of 3 competitors started eleven minutes after the individual athletes, and the first relay finished with a total race time of 3:09:46 and a couple of minutes after the male winners.

"The course was just right to accommodate the athletes and everyone could really enjoy it!" said winner Graves.

Today's TriStar111 Estonia 2010 has attracted 274 individual athletes and 74 relays to race in Otepää in the South of Estonia. The race start was given on the beach of Pühajärv, the "Holy Lake", at 11:00 local time for 111km of Triathlon fun on.

Graves: "I cooked Andersson on the Run." - Ficker: "The course is beautiful and the race was run immaculately."

The 1km SWIM in the 25 degree C waters was completed in 12min 20sec by Philip Graves from Great Britain. Just seconds behind were Björn Andersson (12:24), and Chris McCormack (AUS, 12:26). Chris changed very quickly in the transition area and started the bike first.

On the 100km BIKE leg of the race, Björn Andersson and Philip Graves pushed hard and managed to make the gap to the following athletes longer and longer. It was not until km 85 that Andersson decided to pull away in order to go on the run having the lead. Bkörn Andersson finished the cycling leg 2:29:11 after the race start. Graves followed at 2:31:26, and Thomas Hellriegel with 2:39:03.

The 10km RUN was the hardest part of today's race -- short, demanding, and under the burning heat of the sometimes underestimated Estonian sun. With temperatures above 33 degrees C it was a hot race that Philip Graves could win. He managed to take the lead pretty early into the run. At km 5, he was already more than 3 minutes ahead of Andersson. Graves won his forst international title at TriStar111 Estonia 2010 with a Finish time of 3:13:42. Björn Andersson followed at 3:19:04, Thomas Hellriegel finished 3rd in 3:21:30.

The women's race was thrilling all the same. Kairi Schmidt from Estonia was the first out of the water in 13:36. Close behind was Tanja Slater (GBR) with 13:46. Third was Helen Schmidt with 14:23. Desiree Ficker (USA) was 4th 20 seconds down. Ficker took the lead quite early in the race and would not let it go anymore today. She finished the three loops of the bike course around Lake Pühajärv after 2:53:14. Slater came in second after 3:04:33, followed by Venla Koinvunla from Finland. Until arriving at the Finihsline, Ficker extended the lead and finished in 3:37:02. Slater came in second in 3:51:26, and Alma Sarapuu (FIN) in 4:06:48.

"I have only one word to say about today," said Batelier, winner of three of four XTERRA European Tour races this season and 7-of-8 dating back to last year. "MUD!"

While Mother Nature let her presence be known it was perhaps the swim-to-bike transition that made all the difference in today's race. Batelier clocked a 12:51 swim split, second only to Mikko Vastaranta of Finland, and zipped in and out of transition in 31 seconds. Eventual runner-up Felix Schumann was just 11 seconds back out of the water but took 30 seconds longer than Batelier to get out on the bike, and in the end finished second by just 36 seconds.

"It wasn't so much the transition but the downhill on the bike where Batelier won this race," said Schumann. "He was so fast, so fearless on the very steep, slippery downhill that I could only watch in amazement."

Relative newcomer to XTERRA Ian Leitch of Great Britain took advantage of the technical sections to turn in the fastest bike split of the day in 1:33:32, and was able to not only erase a two minute deficit on the swim, but caught and passed 2005 XTERRA World Champ Nico Lebrun on the bike and held on off one of the world's best trail runners in the final leg to finish an impressive third overall.

Lebrun, who won back-to-back races at XTERRA France and the XTERRA Mountain Championship in Colorado last month, said he just didn't have it on the bike today. Karel Zadak was the fastest Czech racer and 5th overall.

"Lorblanchet led for quite a while on the bike before Bucher got her on the steep, rocky climb during lap 2 when Marion fell and got her chain off the sprocket," said XTERRA managing director Dave Nicholas.

Indeed, the bike is where Bucher was at her best, posting a women's best 1:48:27 (second-best was Emma Ruth Smith at 1:54:36). The blazing fast bike split was enough to erase a three-minute deficit coming out of the water, and her consistently quick run split put her at the finish line in 2:47:18, more than four minutes ahead of Lorblanchet.

Emma Ruth Smith from Great Britain posted her best result as an XTERRA Pro in third, with Myriam Guillot having the best run to place fourth in front of Austria's Carina Wasle.

"The XTERRA bike course mirrored the UCI World Cup downhill course for about 80% of the last mile," explained XTERRA managing director Dave Nicholas. "Fortunately the mountain operations crew allowed us to take out the radical 5' high jumps and ramps near the end but still, the steepness and rocky corners are very different from what XTERRA riders are used to."

That's what James Lawrence (@TriAndGiveADam) of Utah is doing this year with his TriAndGiveaDam fundraising effort and this is only the initial step in his three year plan.

"I'm already signed up for ALL of these races, and I am excited! Water shortage is a global issue and a growing concern. My goal is to reverse the ravaging effects of the drought in Africa, through my passion: triathlons! I am accepting pledges for In Our Own Quiet Way, a 501(C)3 organization that is building dams in Kenya to retain rainfall. Quiet Way's "Give a Dam" project is an innovative, self-sustaining program, and you can be a part of it."

James is a true entrepreneur and dedicates time to raising funds and awareness for In Our Own Quiet Way. For the "Give a Dam" Project - Quiet Way is working with the Kenyan government and Kenyan engineers to build approximately 1,000 water retention systems throughout Northern Kenya to relieve drought. Each dam costs approximately between $10,000 and $15,000 to complete ($1,000,000-$1,500,000 total). The first two dams have been built, and began filling with water in November, 2009.

This is no ordinary feat for the father of 5 kids. Just last weekend James did back-to-back Ironman 70.3 races in Benton Harbor, Michigan and Calgary, Alberta putting him halfway past his challenge. This weekend he will be participating in his 13th Ironman 70.3 race on the schedule at the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Boulder race in Boulder, Colorado. His future races include Lake Stevens, Timberman, Muskoka, Branson, Augusta, Austin, Miami, Clearwater and Kona.

We caught up with James after his back-to-back weekend and have a chance to ask him some questions:

The saying goes "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?", so can you tell us how this idea came about? What's your connection to this cause in Kenya?

I was helping in Quiet Way and was tired of the normal fund raising attempts and wanted to really expose their Give a Dam project. I wanted to do something fun and creative to help expose this huge need. I have a huge passion for triathlon and found that the Ironman platform is pretty big and world wide. I had always wanted to do something big that made a difference. I wanted to leave my mark and this seemed to be a perfect fit. I came up with the idea on a long training ride. This is where I do most of my thinking. The idea was born and I tossed it around to a few friends. Some told me it was an awesome idea and others told me that I would never be able to pull it off. Both fueled me and here I stand today.

You are married and have 5 children, so how did you talk your wife into letting you do this?

I didn't have to talk her into anything. She pushed me to do it. She is an unbelievable support to me and loves that fact that I am trying to challenge myself and try to help others around the world. She is an incredible mother and supports me 100%. We both believe in doing what makes us happy. I would do the same for her and support her 100% if she wanted to do something similar. I actually think she has the harder task of being a full time mother. She also is an athlete and is training to do several of the full Ironman events with me in 2012. I love and spend a lot of time with my 5 kids. They get into my racing and always ask how I did and want to see my medals. I would not be able to do this without the love and support of my family.

Doing an Ironman 70.3 race isn't bad, but doing 21 isn't cheap, especially when you start adding up the related travel expenses. How are you funding this endeavor to raise money for Dams in Kenya?

First I would like to say that 100% of funds gathered get passed onto Quiet Way and the Give a Dam project. No donor is funding my filthy habits and quest to break this world record. Sponsor and personal funds have got me to this point so far. I lost my job in this tough economy and funds are about gone. I have had some very nice friends and strangers get my flights with airmiles. One of my biggest expenses has been bike check fees. What a pain in my ass and an account drainer! I am currently looking for a title sponsor who will take me on as an athlete so that I can continue over the next few years and really get some big time exposure for the cause and sponsors. I could not have made it to this point without some key sponsors, Muscle Works, MyoMed, DUB Nutrition, Aquaphor and Ellsworth bikes to name a few. My coach Keena has also been a huge help and support system for me.

As of late, you have been racing back to back weekends, how do you recover and train? How does a trip to the 2010 Ironman World Championship fit into all of this?

I honestly can't tell you how I am doing this. I get that question a lot. My boy Hayden at Muscle Works spends some quality time on my legs making sure I am up and ready to go each and every weekend. I am on some wonderful supplements by DUB Nutrition, Hornet Juice and ASEA. I don't think I would be able to do this without them. I also have worked really hard to get my body to the shape it is now. My coach has been a huge part of this project making sure I am training and doing the right things. I also think I am blessed with a healthy body and a very strong mind. I hope to put to rest some of the recovery myths out there;)

The trip to worlds was super unexpected and I am very excited to go. This pushes me over the world record. Who would have thought that I would be getting faster as I progress through the year. I won't contend at the championships but you can be sure of one thing - It will be a good time!

You qualified for the Ironman World Championship 70.3 race in Clearwater which is an accomplishment in itself what else have you accomplished or experience and/or what else have you learned about yourself in doing all of these races so far?

This has been a blast of a project. I have learned so much to date. So much about my family, friends and support systems. So much about myself and my abilities. I have learned that the mind is an amazing tool. I have a greater appreciation for my family. I have a greater appreciation for water and the access we have to it. This experience has been priceless and I hope to continue to learn and grow over the next few years. I want to impact and touch the lives of thousands of people.

So far you've raced a variety of races around North America. Can you shed some light on your top 3 races so far, based on the course or your race experience there?

Top three races would have to be:

1- Calgary. This is my home town and the course is just beautiful. There is also something to be said about having your friends and family there.
2- Honu. The electricity there was insane. I loved the energy there and can't wait to go race in Kona one day again but next time it will be for the Full Ironman!
3- Steelhead. This is a fun course because it was VERY fast and I posted a personal best there of 4:39

You can support James and/or his cause by donating air miles for his travel to events or my donating money to the cause of building dams in Kenya. Visit www.triandgiveadam.com or contacting James at james@quietway.org.

We wish him the best on his challenge and will continue to bring you up-to-date with his progress along the way this year or with his future challenges.
The 7th Annual MiracleKids Triathlon takes place later this month and teaches kids the value of giving back to others in need, the triathlon event where everyone wins.

Every year, hundreds of Minnesota kids battle cancer and are too sick to be active and have fun. On August 21, 2010 nearly 1,000 kids will do the racing for them at the 2010 MiracleKids Triathlon when they flock to Lake Ann Park in Chanhassen, Minnesota to participate in the event.

The event touts itself as being the World's Largest Fund Raising Triathlon for Kids event. It is expected that the August 21 race, paired with the first MiracleKids Triathlon race held on July 17, 2010 in Minneapolis will hopefully raise more than $250,000 for families that have a child battling cancer. So far the event in its seven year history has raised $695,000 to support the Miracles of Mitch Foundation. Last year 1,200 kids raced and this year that number should be closer to 1,500 kids racing.

The MiracleKids Triathlon was started in 2004 by Minnesota's own six-time World Triathlon age-group champion Tony Schiller. The world-class event teaches kids to be physically fit and promotes generosity at a young age. The triathlon directly supports the the Miracles of Mitch Foundation which was founded in memory of Mitch Chepokas. Before his death at the age of 9, Mitch worked with his father to distribute his own financial gifts to other cancer kids' families who were struggling with treatment costs and daily expenses.

"I've had the opportunity to volunteer and be a supportive uncle at this event for the past 5 years. It's a great opportunity for kids to get out and exercise, experience the sport of triathlon and share in a worthwhile cause. The support and fundraising that goes on for the children with cancer is truly amazing. The kids young and old sacrifice their time and even their own money to make sure plenty of money is raised for those kids who can't race with them."

Each triathlon is divided into two age groups, 7 to 10 year-olds and 11 to 17 year-olds. The youngest group swims 100 yards, bikes 3 miles and run a half-mile. The older kids will swim 200 yards, bike 6 miles and run 1 mile. Schiller's idea of no timing chips makes every kid a champion when they cross the finish line. In addition to the swimming, biking and running that goes on, the events includes a huge introductory procession with all the kids that has every proud parent shedding a tear or two while Michael Jackson's "We Are the World" plays in the background. Post triathlon festivities include a picnic, and awards ceremony.

Here is an excerpt from a TV new story on last year's race:
"Jordan doesn't just work at fundraising. He trains rigorously by walking a mile on his crutches and biking five or six miles everyday. Even reconstructive surgery on his legs and hips two years ago didn't keep him from racing. This is Jordan's sixth and last Miracle Kids triathlon. During that time, he's raised more than $85,000."

Miracles of Mitch Foundation
Developed by Becky and Steve Chepokas, the Miracles of Mitch Foundation relieves financial stress for families affected by cancer. It also commemorates the legacy of Becky and Steve's child Mitch, who died of cancer in 2003. In his final months, Mitch worked with his father to share his financial savings with other children whose families were torn between spending time with them and paying bills. Mitch no longer stuffs envelopes full of money and slides them under hospital doors, but his acts of kindness live on in the form of the Miracles of Mitch Foundation.

You can share in the experience by volunteering or donating. For more information on the event visit www.miraclekidstriathlon.org or contact Tony Schiller at 952-361-9600 or at tony@mkidstri.com.
