Ventum expands its elite roster of triathletes to include Olympian Jarrod Shoemaker as a special adviser. Shoemaker was recently recognized as Elite Triathlete of the Year (Male 2014) by USA Triathlon (USAT).
As a Ventum special adviser, Shoemaker will test the Ventum One and provide feedback to the design team and engineers who are making improvements to Ventum's flagship bicycle. Shoemaker joins a world-class list of Ventum athletes and product developers. In February, Ventum signed championship triathletes Alicia Kaye, Leanda Cave and Kyle Buckingham.
Born in Concord, Massachusetts, Shoemaker has an extensive and impressive athletic career. A well-rounded athlete in his early years, Shoemaker's love of running began when he was a junior in high school. Shoemaker had a passion for swimming and while attending Dartmouth College he competed in both indoor and outdoor track events. To keep in shape, Shoemaker added cycling to his indoor workouts. An avid runner, swimmer and cyclist, this was when Shoemaker pieced together his triathlete life.
In his debut year as a professional triathlete, Shoemaker was the 2004 USAT Under-23 National Champion. In the last 11 years, Shoemaker has earned nine championship titles in events sanctioned by the USAT and International Triathlon Union (ITU). His major championships include two U.S. National Champion titles (2010, 2012), 2002 Heps XC Champion and 2005 Under-23 ITU World Champion. Shoemaker has been recognized as the 2012 USAT Olympic/ITU Athlete of the Year, 2009 USAT Elite Athlete of the Year and was a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team. Shoemaker now lives and trains in Clermont, Florida with his wife and fellow triathlete, Alicia Kaye.
"I've had the opportunity to compete on various bicycles throughout my career, but I've never been part of the design and development of a bicycle before," said Shoemaker. "When Ventum asked me to join its team as a special adviser, I jumped at the chance. I get the opportunity to train on the Ventum One, and provide feedback to Ventum with the goal of building a better triathlon bike, and hopefully a road bike in future. I'm doing what I love to do and making an impact within the triathlon industry."
"We are thrilled to have an athlete of Jarrod's caliber join Ventum as a special adviser," said Diaa Nour, Ventum co-founder. "Jarrod is an incredible athlete and we're looking forward to his feedback on the Ventum One bicycle. We're proud that he will be wearing the Ventum logo on his race gear and bringing awareness of the Ventum brand to the greater triathlon community."
Ventum One, the first production bicycle from Ventum, will be available for purchase in select bicycle stores this year.
Ventum was founded in 2014 by a team of athlete-engineers and entrepreneurs and is based in Miami Beach, Florida. Ventum uses technology from fighter jets and Formula 1 to create the world's fastest triathlon bicycles, ideal for triathletes competing in non-draft-legal races, such as IRONMAN and Challenge events.
