USA Triathlon recently added the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida, as the nation's fifth USA Triathlon Certified Performance Center.
The National Training Center (NTC) met a number of rigorous requirements set forth by USA Triathlon in order to earn the designation of one of the top multisport facilities in the nation. The center is one of only 10 certified performance or training centers in the country.
In the 1990's, the community hospital, South Lake Hospital, was preparing to build a new hospital in Clermont. Hospital administration, along with physicians and USA Triathlon, had a vision to create a true health, education and wellness campus that would not only serve the medical needs of the residents, but provide sports, health and fitness to the community and beyond.
Opened by South Lake Hospital in 2001, the 37,000 square foot fitness facility features a 75-meter by 25-yard outdoor pool, athletic fields, and a 400-meter track and field complex and cross country course. The NTC also offers outpatient physical therapy, video analysis, bike fits, V02 and lactate testing, and a newly extended performance lab with motion and gait analysis.
"USA Triathlon is excited to welcome the National Training Center to the list of certified centers. The NTC can benefit our members and athletes through the robust facilities and testing services available, as well as access to certified USA Triathlon coaches," said USA Triathlon Coaching Specialty Coordinator Ellis Schieman.
