Belgian Frederik Van Lierde impressed at the Extreme Man Salou Triathlon 113 on the Costa Dorada. The Ironman World bronze medalist in Hawaii and two-time Ironman France champion (2011, 2012) clocked 4hrs11min08sec on the half distance with 1.9km swimming in the Mediterranean, 90km cycling with a difference of altitude on 1,100m and 21.1km running on the gorgeous coast in optimum weather conditions.
"It was a fantastic race and a lot of fun. There were very many people along the really gorgeous and impressive course", said the 33-year-old after his triumph. Van Lierde competed at the Extreme Man Salou to prepare for the upcoming Ironman France in Nice (23 June). "I am already in form - Nice can come."
The Spaniards Albert Moreno and Raül Amatriain finished second and third respectively behind the Belgian. Gurutze Frades Larralde won the women's event in 4hrs56min24sec.
