Triathlon Business International (TBI), an industry organization dedicated to promoting the sport and the business of triathlon internationally, today announced its inaugural global conference "The Growth & Globalization of Triathlon," September 10 - 12, 2013 at the Hilton London Metropole in London, UK. The date was selected to coincide with the ITU Triathlon World Championship Grand Final in Hyde Park September 11-15, 2013. Registration for the conference is now open.

This first-ever global conference targets retailers, event directors, service providers, manufacturers, industry executives and athletes who make their living in the fastest growing sport on the planet: triathlon. The conference focuses on the business of the sport - event management, media, technology, equipment manufacturing and sales, apparel, nutrition and competition - and is designed specifically to bring insights into the market forces that shape the globalization and growth of triathlon, and its related sports of swimming, biking and running.

The content of the London conference will be led by experts and speakers who are triathlon storytellers and fact-finders providing practical, functional and motivational information through multiple general sessions, panel discussions, topical breakout sessions and case studies. Topics will cover event rules, safety, and emergency management; international mergers/acquisitions; maximizing event participation, revenue and media; attracting participants; ROI on sponsorships; online and traditional retailing; social media and mobile trends; trends in training, nutrition and equipment; and reports on the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The genesis of the London conference came during the 2012 (then) Triathlon America annual conference in San Diego, CA, which was opened by keynote speaker and International Triathlon Union president Marisol Casado. Part of her presentation focused on developing the sport of triathlon to its fullest extent, which dovetailed precisely into Triathlon America's goals. Casado was impressed and intrigued with the vision and potential of Triathlon America. She asked president Jack Caress and the founding boardmembers if the organization would be interested in producing a global conference and hosting the reception at the London Games celebrating the sport of triathlon at the Olympics. With a resounding "yes," the rest is history. Prior to the conference the Board had already decided to change the organization's name from Triathlon America to Triathlon Business International, so a London conference and Olympic reception became a natural extension of TBI's expansion.
