Mooloolaba to Host New Ironman 70.3 Sunshine Coast

Australia will host another Ironman 70.3 Series triathlon event in 2013 with the addition of the new Ironman 70.3 Sunshine Coast race in Mooloolaba. The inaugural triathlon is set to take place on Australia's Sunshine Coast on Sunday, September 15, 2013 and is expected to attract some 1,500 competitors.

This will be the first Ironman 70.3 event for the region, and will highlight all the beautiful aspects of the friendliest coast in Australia. Competitors will race through Mooloolaba, starting with a swim off Mooloolaba's surf beach followed by a flat and fast cycle course. The run will tie up the day's exciting events with two lap course around Mooloolaba's Esplanade.

It will consist of the following standard distances: Swim 1.9km, Bike 90km and Run 21.1km on a course with stunning beach and ocean views.

The new Ironman 70.3 triathlon will complement other popular triathlon competitions across the State including the successful Noosa Triathlon Multi-Sport Festival, the Mooloolaba Triathlon and the Cairns Airport Adventure Festival which includes Ironman Cairns.

The Ironman 70.3 Sunshine Coast race will offer a $25,000(USD) prize purse for the pros and 40 age group qualifying slots for the Ironman World Championship 70.3 race in Las Vegas.
