Again our year-end look takes a peak at some of the triathlon finisher medals of 2012 from races around the world. From generic to highly custom designs, they offer those triathletes that like them a post race memory of the challenge they conquered whether short or long.

Yeah, yeah, some people like finisher medals, some don't. Some wear it proudly, some don't care. Without a doubt, the two most sought after triathlon medals of 2012 where the two gold medals at the London Olympic Games in the triathlon event, won by Nicola Spirig and Alistair Brownlee.
Again we have some real cool looking ones Revolution3 Triathlon from their Half-Full, Maine and Florida events. We can't forget to mention the unique ones athletes received in Cebu at the Ironman 70.3 Philippines race designed by local artist Kenneth Cobonpue. Honorable mention would go to the Roman numeral design for the Lifetime Tri - Chicago event, using the 3 X's to represent 30-years in their medal. Speaking of 30-years, we have two others medals in our collection from events being around for that long, the Gulf Coast Triathlon and the now gone Ironman Canada triathlon.
Take a peek at some of the triathlon finisher medals we came across from 2012 events (click on the image to see a bigger picture), categorized by North America races and International events.
It's great to see organizers going all out on their design, incorporating something from the setting into the design. The collection of 2012 triathlon finisher medals we saw or came across for the most part featured plenty of color and/or a unique design. Medals with circles and ovals proved to be popular in 2012, with squares not far behind. Of course we had a few non-traditional, good from something else medals (bottle openers) from a couple of events. For the most part organizers changed the design of their finisher medal except for one or two that have the same design as last year.
One guy that has a bragging collection to talk about from iron distance triathlon events around the world is James Lawrence. His 2012 collection includes 30 triathlon finisher medals from events on 5 continents. He not only has 30 triathlon medals to talk about, he has a new Guinness World Record to go along with them for most iron distance triathlons in one year.
What do you think? Do you have one of these? Do you have a favorite? Which one don't you like? Drop us a line and let us know.
You'll have to wait a year, when we see what triathlon events in 2013 have to offer...
