Set amidst the stunning backdrop of Lake Ontario, the inaugural Great Lakes 100 Mile Triathlon took place this past October and gave triathletes a unique and memorable challenge in Niagara County, NY. Now for 2013, Great Lakes Racing, LLC will bring back the Western New York State event along with the addition of a new 100 Mile Triathlon in Northeastern Ohio, using Lake Erie as the venue.
The name of the event is derived by backdrop and miles in and out of the major body of water. The Great Lakes 100 Mile Triathlon begins with a challenging 1 mile Swim in the Great Lakes, followed by an 84 mile Bike through the scenic Great Lakes countryside and ends with a 15 mile Run along the lake shore. Their logo incorporates the related elements, such as a compass for navigating the Great Lakes as well as 100, the distance of the triathlon event.
Organizers believe the unique triathlon distance will appeal to a wide range of athletes. Set amidst the stunning backdrop of the Great Lakes, athletes will experience a unique and memorable challenge - 100 miles of triathlon bliss.
