Charlotte Gets New Half Iron Distance Triathlon in 2013


setup-ncts-promo.pngSet Up Events, one of the nation's largest producer of triathlon events spanning all along the East Coast has unveiled plans for a new half iron distance triathlon in the Charlotte, North Carolina area. The new Carolina Half is part of the 2013 North Carolina Triathlon Series which features some 20 triathlon events.

After many months of work and planning, Charlotte will get its first Half Iron Distance event in 2013. The inagural event will start at the Davidson College Lake Campus in Mooresville, NC and finish at Bailey Rd Park in Cornelius, NC. Transition #1 and Transition #2/Finish Line will be serparated by only 7 miles.

Swim:
The 1.2mi swim will take place at Davidson College Lake Campus off Langtree Rd. Water temperature at Lake Norman during this time of the year is usually around 72 degrees which will make for a fast wetsuit legal swim. The swim will be a beach start, with participants lining up shoulder to shoulder. It will be a triangle clock wise swim course with two turns. The swim exit will be a ladder exit at the end of the pier.

Bike:
The 56mi bike course is a loop that will run thorugh 4 different counties. The course will start out by going directly through Downtown Mooresville heading out into rural areas of NC. The course is a combination of flats, rolling hills, rural and urban areas. The Road surface is very good throughout the course.

Run:
The 13.1mi run course is an "out & back" with a loop design. The course is rolling, features a fair amount of shading, but also some stretches without shade. The course will leave Bailey Rd Park and connect to the Cornelius/Davidson Greenway system. It will utilize the Cornelius/Davidson Greenway system and surrounding neighborhoods in Davidson/Cornelius.

The new Carolina Half will be limited to 500 participants and will be a USA Triathlon sanctioned triathlon event. Special Note: All participants will need to check in their bikes into the T1/Davidson College Lake Campus transition area on Saturday between 12:00 Noon - 7PM.

This event benefits Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training.
