Nominations Open for 2012 USA Triathlon Multisport Awards

Awards will honor the best of the multisport lifestyle from 2012

usatawardspromo12.jpgIn an effort to recognize those individuals who best fueled the multisport lifestyle during the 2012 season, USA Triathlon is pleased to announce that nominations are open for the second annual USA Triathlon Multisport Awards.

All multisport supporters are encouraged to nominate friends, family and fellow competitors for these prestigious national honors. Nominations are being accepted through Dec. 31 in the following six award categories:

Volunteer of the Year Award - This award is to recognize an individual or organization whose volunteer leadership in the multisport movement has been transformative and who has mobilized and unified athletes, programs and organizations that improve the events, youth or others affiliated with the sport.

Jeff Jewell Spirit Award - This award is to honor Jeff Jewell, a massage therapist for Team USA from 2001-2009. He lost his battle with brain cancer on November 15, 2010. He was one of life's biggest cheerleaders and was an inspiration to everyone he met.

Military Sport Award - This award is to recognize the multisport successes achieved by the men and women of the US Armed Forces.

Most Inspirational Comeback Award - This award is recognizing athletes with who have compelling and inspirational stories to tell. It can include a memorable story about a great race that was accomplished post a traumatic event or perhaps a story about the recover process and impact I has had on the athletes and/or others around them.

Spirit of Multisport Award - This award seeks to recognize individuals who illustrate the principles of the positive spirit of the sport by identifying athletes who display excellent sportsmanship and leadership in multisport, with no deference to athletic ability.

Lifetime Achievement Award - This award is to recognize those who have made significant contributions to USA Triathlon and the multisport lifestyle. These contributions, whether they have been in performance, leadership, volunteerism or mentorship, must demonstrate impact on the multisport lifestyle and support an extended commitment to the sport.

The 2012 USAT Multisport Awards are now open for nominations. Full details on the criteria for each award and nomination instructions are available at usatriathlon.org.

Once the nomination period closes, USA Triathlon's Age Group Awards Subcommittee will review all nominations and select the winners and honorable mentions for each Multisport Award.

Award winners will be announced in USA Triathlon's Multisport Zone e-newsletter in February 2013.
