2012 Ironman World Championship Airs October 27

Okay, it's that time again, but this time it's about six weeks earlier than normal. This is a reminder, to get your DVR ready for the upcoming broadcast of the 2012 Ironman World Championship on NBC this Saturday, October 27, 2012, from 4 to 6 p.m. EST (check local listings). The two-hour telecast will highlight the physical and emotional journey taken by athletes during the 140.6-mile triathlon in Kailau-Kona, Hawaii.


Nearly 1,800 of the world's finest athletes braved the harsh elements of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, in an attempt to earn the title of "Ironman." Participants ranging in age from 19 to 82 years competed in the 2.4-mile Pacific Ocean swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile marathon in a battle of human motivation versus sweltering heat and mental and physical fatigue.

The show will be 30 minutes longer that last year. The 2012 broadcast captures the emotion of the day and features the head-to-head competition among the top male and female professionals. See how newly crowned champions Pete Jacobs and Leanda Cave battled the conditions and the fierce competition to win this years race. The tv broadcast will be in two parts, with part one focusing on the pre-race setting and establishing the contenders. The second part of the show captures race day, the highs and lows of the battle for the world championship title.
