Bayliss & Crawford Win Challenge Henley-on-Thames

chhotcrawford12.jpgStephen Bayliss and Gina Crawford win the 2012 iron distance Challenge Henley-on-Thames triathlon in the UK. It's Bayliss's second Challenge triathlon win in less than a month. Last month he won the shortened Challenge Vichy race which was change to a half due to extreme heat. It's also Crawford's second Challenge victory in weeks, she won the Challenge Walchsee-Kaiserwinkl half with a new course record as well.

Bayliss started the day off with the fastest swim, a 48:39 split which was almost 4 minutes faster that Scott Neyedli who was second out of the water. Jens Kaiser of Germany nearly made up his 9-minute deficit on Bayliss from the swim with the fastest bike split of the day a 4:46:58, compared to a 4:54:53 Bayliss rode. The rest of the men's field also narrowed the gap Bayliss had. Joel Jameson was less than two minutes down on Bayliss after T2, but only manged to run 30-seconds fater that Bayliss on the marathon, giving Bayliss the win and Joel second place. Tuuka Miettinen of Finland finished in third place.

On the women's side, New Zealand's Gina Crawford lead from start to finish, smashing the womens' pro field and smashing the course record with her sub 3-hour marathon split. She swims a 53:05, bikes a 5:11:14 and runs 2:58:34 for win with a time of 9:08:05. She out performed Stephen's wife Bella Bayliss by 32 minutes who took second. Yvette Grice of Great Britain take the third podium spot.
