USA Triathlon has announced that the 2012 Junior and Youth National Championships will take place in West Chester, Ohio on August 11-12, 2012. USAT anticipates 500-plus youth and junior competitors in attendance, including athletes from Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. In addition, National Championship titles will be awarded to the top Youth Club (non-drafting events) and Development Team (draft-legal).
"USA Triathlon is excited to bring the Junior and Youth National Championship to West Chester," said Jeff Dyrek, national events director of USA Triathlon. "This event offers a race for athletes ranging from first-time youth triathletes to the nation's future Olympic hopefuls. We've experienced record participation numbers in recent years and hope to achieve the same in Ohio."

The Youth National Championship, Youth Elite National Championship and Junior Elite National Championship will be held on August 11th. The Team Relay will be held on August 12th. The event and transition area will be located in Voice of America Park.
USAT Age Group Rule
All athletes must be between the ages of 7-19 as of December 31, 2012.
Youth National Championship (non drafting)
- • 7-10-year-olds: 100me swim, 5km bike, and 1km run
- • 11-15-year-olds: 200me swim, 10km bike, 2km run
- • (No qualification required)
Youth Elite National Championship (draft legal)
- • 13-15-year-olds: 375me swim, 10km bike, 2.5km run
Junior Elite National Championship (draft legal)
- • 16-19-year-olds: 750me swim, 20km bike, 5km run
Team Relay (draft legal)
- • Athletes must be 13 to 19 years old as of December 31, 2012, to compete with a team
