The 5150 Series which made it's international debut last year and is owned by the World Triathlon Corporation adds a new event to the series in Ontario, Canada. The new 5150 Muskoka triathlon event will be hosted at the beautiful Summit Center in Huntsville, Ontario on July 22, 2012. Just 90 minutes from Toronto and the same location where the annual Ironman 70.3 Miskoka event take place.
The 5150 triathlon is an Olympic Distance triathlon consisting of a 1.5km Swim, 40km Bike and a 10km Run. 5150 represents the total 51.50km triathlon distance. Triathletes will have a chance to qualify for the 5150 U.S. Championship which is held in conjunction with the Hy-Vee triathlon in Des Moines, Iowa. The event offers professional triathletes an opportunity to compete for $1 million in prize purse.
Top 5 winners in each 5 year age group will win a FREE entry into the 5150 World Championship. Top 15 in each age group will qualify for the event in Des Moines! The 5150 Muskoka Pro Prize Money will be $15,000
The triathlon event in Muskoka will also host a Sprint Distance Race option on Sunday, July 22nd as well as a local Kids Triathlon on Saturday the 21st.
The 5150 events will have an Age Group Elite category. To be eligible for the Age Group Elite category at 5150 Muskoka, athletes must furnish proof of completing an international distance event (1.5k swim, 40k bike, 10k run) during 2011 or 2012 before 5150 Muskoka, with a time below 2:15 for men and below 2:30 for women. Elite age group athletes will compete for awards and prizes in Des Moines.
