Northern Minnesota lands a new triathlon event for 2012. The city of Duluth, MN, which is about 3 hours from Minneapolis, will be hosting a brand new Half Iron distance triathlon event in August, the Superior Man Triathlon. Triathletes from around North America will find out what it takes to be a Superior Man as the inaugural Superior Man Triathlon will challenge even the heartiest of endurance athletes as they "Escape from the Vista Fleet" into the Bay of Lake Superior.

The 70.3 mile distance race starts in Duluth Bay in Lake Superior where athletes will jump start from the Vista Fleet cruise ships. Triathletes will endure the point-to-point swim to the Amsoil Arena where the indoor transition zone will be set up. Next, participants will bike a 56 mile out and back loop along the North Shore of Lake Superior before arriving back at the arena. Finally, the race ends with a 3-loop half marathon along the lake walk and Canal Park in downtown Duluth set against the beautiful backdrop of Lake Superior and Duluth's Aerial Lift Bridge. The finish line will welcome athletes to Bayfront Festival Park which will cap off a very exciting day for racers and spectators alike!
The course will offer spectators great opportunities to see and cheer their athlete along the way during the swim and run potions of the race. Spectators will also get to see live video feed of the transition area excitement on the jumbotron from the stands of Amsoil arena.

Duluth is a thriving endurance athlete hotspot. The city has been featured as a "Top Ten Dream Town" by Outside Magazine and as one of the "7 Top Trail Towns" by Trail Runner Magazine. Duluth is also home to Grandma's Marathon, one of the largest marathon's in the world, which draws more than 17,000 participants for its three-race event each June.
The Duluth area is no stranger to triathlon events during the Minnesota summers. It's been home to the Brewhouse Triathlon which will be celebrating it's 26th year in existence in August as well.
