It seems that the organizers of the tough Ironman Lanzarote event on the Canary Islands have been negotiating to bring a new Ironman 70.3 to Spain and Lanzarote. While no official announcement has been made yet, all the details of the new Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote race are on the Ironman Lazarote website. Stay tuned for additional details...

"This awsome event will challenge athletes amongst some of the most spectacular scenery in Europe. Age Group Athletes will also have the chance to win one of 30 qualifying slots for the 2013 Ironman 70.3 World Championship at Lake Las Vegas, in Henderson, Nevada."

"Registration opens soon! Slots are limited to 850 for Age Group Athletes and 50 for Professionals so early registration is recommended. Registration will close on October 20th 2012 or sooner if the limit of 850 Age group athletes is reached."

The course details have been details, but could change. The race will vary from the existing Ironman course, with only some portions of the bike course being on the existing course. It appears that the event will take place at Club La Santa, a popular International Sports Resort on the island.

Swim Course Distance: 1.9km
This 2 lap course takes place in a safe, closed off salt water lagoon outside Club La Santa. The water temperature is around 21 degrees so wetsuits are allowed. Athletes families and spectators will have the chance to cheer them on at close range as they pass by them on the beach on their way to the transition zone. (cut off 1h 15min after race start)

Bike Course Distance: 90.1km
Participants will be challenged on a hilly ride with the possibility of strong winds on this one lap course. Riders will pass through the village of Famara with its massive cliffs and beautiful views of the neighboring island of La Graciosa; towards the picturesque town of Teguise; downhill and towards the northern coast via the 10km beautiful mountain climb of Tabayesco. (cut off 5 h 45 min after race start)

Run Course Distance: 21.1km
This final course will be run under the heat of the afternoon sun over 2 laps keeping the athletes close to the spectators at Club La Santa and La Santa village. Spectators and athletes can enjoy live music and entertainment in both places. (cut off 8 h 30 min after race start)
