Interesting Triathlon Training and Race Venue Concept

There is a survey going around with an interesting triathlon training and race venue concept being proposed. A company whose primary business revolves around the sport of triathlon is preparing to build a self-contained triathlon training and racing preserve located on a 1,000+ acre tract of land. The specific location is confidential at the moment but is considered a "destination" location.

This triathlon facilities would include:

  • • A custom built 35 acre crescent shaped spring fed lake, with crystal clear water, permanent lane ropes throughout the course, large numbered buoys with distances, permanent life guard stands in the middle of the course, and a paved walkway around the entire perimeter of the lake.
  • • A specially designed 14 mile bike loop that is 14 feet in width (2 feet wider than a standard interstate lane) and features ultra smooth asphalt paving, softly banked turns (there are no corners on the course), and a permanent aid station designed like a NASCAR pit area.
  • • A custom built 6.5 mile asphalt run course with permanent aid station gazebos at each mile point.
  • • A transition area designed to accommodate up to 2,500 bikes. Outdoor carpeting throughout the entire TA with permanently constructed bike racks that are individually numbered.
  • • Four "stadiums" built for the ultimate viewing experience for spectators. These stadiums are designed and constructed using natural earth mounding and are located at the Swim Start/Finish, the TA, the Finish Line, and a fourth stadium located at the mid point of the bike and run loops. Stadiums include video and audio capabilities.
  • • Nighttime Racing!! Over 320 light towers will illuminate the entire lake, half of the bike and run courses, and all the stadiums to allow for nighttime training and sprint distance racing.
  • • A 20 room lodge (Hampton Inn style rooms)
  • • Conference center (with full kitchen)
  • • 25 cabins
  • • 50 site RV park (full hook-ups)
  • • Events will range from sprint distance up to the half iron distance races

The concept looks very interesting and different. The on-site accommodations with in-room amenities and store looks like heaven for this how travel to races. It's a spectator focused venue with many vantage points for capturing the action within a short walk. The short track would offer spectators many opportunities to see their athlete racing.
