Final Kona Pro Rankings Slots for 2011 Ironman World Championship

raelertelliskpr11.jpgAfter a weekend of Ironman in Louisville and Penticton the final standings in the Kona Pro Rankings are out and the following professional triathletes have qualified for the 2011 Ironman World Championship race. They will be offered and opportunity to accept or decline the 2011 Kona starting slot. This is the second and final round of qualifying spots for the pros. Andreas Raelert had enough points in the first round but still needed to meet his one Ironman race requirement, he did that at Ironman Regensburg. Mary Beth Ellis of teamTBB won her third consecutive Ironman race in Penticton to move up in the KPR and qualify for the 2011 World Championship race in her rookie year of Ironman racing.

UPDATE:
Jordan Rapp declined his slot for Kona, so that means Matt Reed has qualified.
Other notables that raced this past weekend and qualified include Jordan Rapp who won Ironman Canada and Chris McDonald who won Ironman Louisville. Others on the list that improved their chances while out racing: Torsten Abel, Bert Jammaer, Matthew Russell, Jason Shortis, Maki Nishiuchi, Miranda Alldritt and Jackie Arendt at Ironman Louisville.

Meredith Kessler placed 3rd at Ironman Canada and missed gaining enough points to make the final cut. She will have to wait and see if any women decline their slots for her chance to go to Kona this year, but Jacqui Gordon is still ahead of her in points. Paul Ambrose started Ironman Louisville and ended the day with a DNF, thus not helping his chances for this final selection. He is second on the bubble behind Matty Reed who did not race.
