Triathlon in Royal Mail 2012 London Olympic Stamp Release


royal mail triathlon stampThe 2012 London Olympic Games are set to commence one year from today in England. To celebrate the one year countdown the Royal Mail, the national postal service of the United Kingdom, has issued it's final set of ten 1st Class stamps to commemorate the upcoming game.

The first-class stamps, titled Get ready for 2012, feature classic Olympic sports such as field athletics and gymnastics as well as more recent additions to the Olympic and Paralympic Games including the sport of triathlon. The sport of triathlon made it's debut at the 2000 Olympic Games in Australia.

The stamps are the final set to be issued in Royal Mail's three-year countdown which has seen a total of 30 stamps issued. The creation of 30 stamps marks the fact that this is the 30th Olympiad, and also represents every sport in both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The 30 stamps have been designed by 30 different artists. Triathlon illustration by Adam Simpson. The 30 sporting areas were divided into three sets of ten to ensure a balance of Olympic and Paralympic sports for each year of issue. They were very precise to ensure that a balance of ball and water sports was maintained.

The Olympic distance (1.5km Swim, 40km Bike, 10km Run) Women's' Triathlon event is set for Saturday, August 4, 2012 from 9:00 - 11:40 at Hyde Park. The Men's Triathlon competition is set to take place on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 11:30 - 14:00 at Hyde Park as well.
