Race Results for Vineman and Racine Ironman 70.3

im703ovallogo.jpgWe had another weekend with multiple Ironman 70.3 Series races. This time we a pair of half-iron distance Ironman 70.3 events in the United States. Chris Lieto and Mirinda Carfrae were in California to defend their Ironman 70.3 Vineman titles while Craig Alexander was back in Wisconsin to defend his Ironmann 70.3 Racine title. It was a weekend for some professionals to gain valuable Kona Pro Ranking points and for others to solidify their chances to qualify for slots to the Ironman World Championship 70.3 race in Hendorson, Nevada.

Australians Christie Sym and Paul Ambrose Win Ironman 70.3 Racine

Paul Ambrose behind a solid bike and run against a pretty good field including fellow Aussies Craig Alexander and Tim Berkel wins in Racine. After two recent second place finishes at Ironman 70.3 Mooseman and Rhode Island he gets a win. Alexander was in the mix after the bike but faded on the run, mostly likely due to the heat and recovery from his Ironman Coeur d'Alene win three weeks ago. After a fourth place finish last year behind Samantha Warriner and others, she get the win in Racine and her first Ironman 70.3 title.

Records and Wins for Andy Potts and Melissa Rollison at Ironman 70.3 Vineman

Andy Potts gets back into the Ironman 70.3 mix after several Olympic distance triathlon races, including a second place finish last weekend in Minneapolis at the Life Time Fitness Triathlon. His solid swim and run splits were just enough to stay ahead of the quality field and set a new course record. Paul Matthews was leading the chance and finishes 29 second behind him for second place. Defending champion Chris Lieto of course had the fastest bike split of the day, 2:03:27 but it wasn't enough of a lead to make up for the slower swim and fast run splits, he finishes in 7th.

Melissa Rollison storms to another victory beating some of the world's best and smashing Mirinda Carfrae's course record in the process with her winning time of 4:09:00. She used her new run course record 1:16:28 to stay ahead of Carfrae and Leanda Cave who finished in second place, six minutes back. Its back-to-back wins for the 28-year old who last weekend won the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Muncie race. Melanie McQuaid tries her best after her second place finish at the XTERRA Mountain Championship race on Saturday. McQuaid rounds out the Top 10 in eighth place.
