IM Mont-Tremblant vs IM U.S. Championship Poll Results

Will registration for Ironman Mont-Tremblant be more popular than that of Ironman U.S. Championship tomorrow? Will the Mont-Tremblant race sell out before the New York City event? We think those will be the trends starting tomorrow and in the future, based on our Triathlon Poll results.

Last week right before the official announcement of the Ironman U.S. Championship we polled our readers to see which Ironman triathlon event they would prefer to do now that both races would be taking place in August. The other race in the poll was the newly announced Ironman Mont-Tremblant in Quebec, Canada. It's quite obvious that most triathltes are interested in the new Ironman Mont-Tremblant (68%) race for one reason or another versus the other newly announced Ironman U.S. Championship (27%) triathlon event.

The two NEW Ironman races are roughly 500 miles apart in the Northeast quadrant of North America and are both will be taking place in the month of August, starting in 2012. We didn't add any other races to the poll, even though Ironman Lake Placid is in the neighborhood and Ironman Canada take place in August as well. We wanted to focus on the draw these two new Ironman venues offered.

Our week long TRIJUICE IM Triathlon Poll opened before the rumors started going around that the possible entry fee for the Ironman U.S Championship in New Jersey could be $1,000, making it one of the most expensive triathlon events around. Registration opens tomorrow for both races and still no entry fee price information on the Ironman U.S Championship website.

Athletes will start the 2.4-mile (3.8 km) swim in Tremblant Lake. The two-loop, 112-mile (180 km) bike course runs largely through Mont-Tremblant's forests and mountains. Athletes will then embark on the two-loop, 26.2-mile (42.2 km) run course into the heart of the pedestrian village of Tremblant Resort. Athletes will start in waves for the 2.4-mile point-to-point swim in the Hudson River. The 112-mile bike course spans the cliffs of Palisades Parkway in Bergen and Rockland Counties followed by a 26.2-mile run course beginning in New Jersey and running over the George Washington Bridge with a finish at 81st Street in the heart of the city in in Riverside Park in Manhattan.

Both locations offer unique landscapes for the 140.6 iron distance challenge, one might appear to be more challenging than the other in one way, but both have their uniqueness. Mont-Tremblant roughly has a population of 10,000 while the population around New York City is in the millions. The urban setting for the Ironman U.S. Championship is totally opposite of that what Ironman Mont-Tremblant has to offer, and outdoor wonderland based around a ski resort.

There was a fair amount of internet chatter on the New York City Ironman race, people interested in doing the race. Will that still be the case tomorrow if the registration fee is $1,000, we will just have to wait an see. The entry fee for Ironman Mont-Tremblant is $675.00 CAN (roughly $695 USD)

Registration for both Ironman races opens tomorrow, June 15, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. ET. via the appropriate websites:
