Next Up in 2011 Series, TriGrandPrix Basque Country


trigrandprix Basque CountryStage 2 in the 2011 TriGrandPrix Championship Series will take place this weekend, June 11th with the 25th Anniversary running of the BH Zarauzko Triatloia which hosts the TriGrandPrix Basque Country triathlon event. This years event breaks the record with 700 triathletes registered to race.

The Middle Distance race will consist of a 2.5km Swim, 82km Bike and a 20km Run in and around Basque Country.

The Pro field is simply amazing. With 20,000€ in Prize Money up for grabs, stage two of the TriGrandPrix Series will see Eneko Llanos (Ironman Texas Champion) racing against Mathias Hecht (Ironman Utah Champion) and the 2X World Champion Normann Stadler. Besides the Ironman Champions, TriGrandPrix Basque Country will also have a strong field of other contenders like Mikel Elguezabal, Bjorn Andersson and Herve Faure.

Athletes like Clemente Alonso, Francesc Godoy, Francisco Pontano, Hektor Llanos, Jon Unanue, Miquel Blanchart, Owen Cummins, Peru Alfaro, Richard Calle, Tom Sturdy, Xabi Boneta and Raul Amaitrian will try to conquer Eneko Llanos' domain.

On the female side the race gets even better. 2010 defending champion Catriona Morrison will be on-hand and is the pre-race favorite. 2011 has been great for her so far winning Ironman 70.3 St Croix, Ironman Texas and then maybe the TriGrandPrix Basque Country 2011 event?

Catriona will not be alone. She will defend her title against Eva Ledesma (winner of the first two Challenge Family races), Julia Grant (winner of TriGrandPrix UK), Ana Burgos and Natalie Barnard. Anna Cleaver, the new Star of Siri Lindley, coach of Mirinda Carfrae and Leanda Cave, will also try to be the new Basque Champion.
