Charles Futrell Becomes Oldest Man to Complete a Triathlon

He did it!

With an official finish time of 2:18:38, Charles Futrell, 90 years old, of The Villages, FL became the oldest man to finish a USA Triathlon (USAT) sanctioned triathlon on Saturday, June 11, 2011 in Clermont, FL during the Central Florida Triathlon Series #2 race.

Mr. Futrell swam 440 yards in Lake Minneola, biked 10 miles on a course that circled Lake Minneola, and then ran 3 miles to the finish located at Clermontʼs Waterfront Park.

Though Mr. Futrell was born on August 9, 1920, USAT uses the racerʼs age on December 31st as their racing age, making him 91 years old.

On May 14, 2011, Mr. Futrell became the oldest man to complete a duathlon in Clermont, Fl during the Central Florida Duathlon Series #1, which differs from a triathlon in that he did not swim, but instead ran 1 mile prior to completing the bike and run to the finish.
