A new anchor event has been added to the Texas Tri Series the series. The new Kerrville Triathlon Festival, which is set for October 1-2, 2011. The new event will bring a new long course triathlon to Texas hill country. There's also a Quarter Distance Triathlon and a Sprint Distance race the day before. Kerrville, TX is located approximately 66 miles Northwest from San Antonio or 103 miles West of Austin.

Jack & Adam's Bicycles, High Five Events, along with the City of Kerrville have come together to setup the Kerrville Triathlon Festival, a multi-day event that consists of three races in two days along with a 2-day sports expo which features a downtown finish. The Half Iron Triathlon will feature some of the most scenic cycling available in Texas along with a multi-loop run course that is great for spectators.

The fall triathlon will have something for everyone with the 3 race options being offered. The Half Iron Distance will consist of a 1.2 mile Swim, 56 mile Bike, 13.1 mile Run and includes a Relay option. The Quarter Distance Triathlon taking place on Sunday, the same day as the Half will consist of a 1000 meter Swim, 29.8 mile Bike, 6.4 mile Run. On Saturday the festival will offer a Sprint Distance Triathlon with a 500 meter Swim, 12 mile Bike, 5 Km Run.

The swim start and finish are below the transition area on the grass directly behind the Kerrville Family Sports Center. The first transition area (T1) for both events is located in the west parking lot of the Inn of the Hills hotel, adjacent to Guadalupe St. The swim will take place in Kerrville Ponding Lake. Water temperature is usually in the mid 70s in late September, so the swim will likely be wetsuit legal. The second transition area (T2) is located in downtown Kerrville, near the finish line. The finish is at the center of Kerrville, at the intersection of Water St. and Earl Garrett St.

The Texas Tri Series now in its 5th year consists of six races, now including the inaugural Kerrville Triathlon Festival.

Registration is now open for all of the triathlon events taking place during the Kerrville Triathlon Festival. Early registration ends on June 1, 2011 so hurry to get your discounted race entry. Visit www.kerrvilletri.com/athletes_registration.asp for information on registering.
