A new evolution in the sport of triathlon kicks-off tomorrow just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada with the inaugural running of the Leadman Triathlon. Triathletes will be putting their endurance and will power on the line instead of their wallets in an event designed to completely challenge each and everyone participating in all three disciplines of the sport.
The inaugural Leadman EPIC 250 Triathlon will include more than 50 of the fittest triathletes in the sport. The event offers a unique 250-kilometer ultra-distance triathlon, including a five-kilometer (3.1 mile) swim in the shadow of Dead Man's Island, 223-kilometer (138.6-mile) bike through the Valley of Fire State Park, and a 22-kilometer (13.7-mile) run along a trail that once brought workers and materials to build Hoover Dam.
In addition to the full Leadman EPIC 250-kilometer distance. In addition to the full Leadman 250-kilometer distance, a Half Leadman course featuring a 2.5-kilometer (1.5-mile) swim, 112-kilometer (70-mile) bike and 22-kilometer (13.7-mile) run will be taking place as well. The Leadman EPIC 250 race also has a three-person relay team division.
The race starts tomorrow Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 6:00 a.m. PDT at Boulder Beach in the Lake Mead National Recreation, not far from Las Vegas.
The 250-kilometer course features more than 7,000 feet of climbing and a peak elevation of 2,600 feet in historic Boulder City.
