Austria will get it's second Ironman 70.3 Series race with the soon to come announcement of the new Ironman 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun triathlon set to take place in 2012. This would be Europe's 10th Ironman 70.3 Series race in the ever expanding global half ironman series. Athletes will swim in the beautiful Lake Zell, compete on the bike along the picturesque landscape of the mountains and run along the lake to finish in Zell am See.

The perfect infrastructure and its unique natural environment makes Zell am See-Kaprun an attractive and perfect event venue. Thanks to Lake Zell, boasting drinking water quality, and the excellently developed cycling trails in the neighbouring communities of Bruck, Maishofen, and Piesendorf, the participating athletes will profit from great conditions allowing for a perfect race. Zell am See-Kaprun offers everything for a triathlon event of this scale including 1.9 kilometres swimming, 90 kilometres cycling, and 21.1 kilometres running. Good travel connections and an international airport nearby will help facilitate the journey to the region for athletes from all over the globe.

The race will feature qualifying slots to the Ironman World Championship 70.3 event in Henderson, Nevada. (stay tuned, more details to come...)


The valley of Zell is a corridor in the middle of the Austrian Alps between the Saalach and the Salzach rivers. The lake is the 68-metre (223 ft) deep Lake Zell, with Zell am See's "Altstadt" (or Old Town) in the west, and with the villages of Thumersbach to the east, Erlberg to the southeast, and Schüttdorf directly to the south. Zell am See is approximately 100 kilometres to the East of Innsbruck and 30 kilometers North of Großglockner.

The new Ironman 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun is being organized by Triangle Events, which organizes various Ironman and Ironman 70.3 events in Europe and Africa.

Better be ready as there will be an early bird special for the first 500 entries. First 500 entries will pay €159.- for an individual entry, after that the price goes to €210.-, Relays will be €231.-.
