The World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) has converted another former Australian Half Ironman Series race to the global Ironman 70.3 Series with the announcement of the new Ironman 70.3 Shepparton triathlon race. The new Shepparton event is set to take place on Sunday, November 13, 2011 down under. The WTC has partnered with the Shepparton Triathlon Club who managed the previous Shepparton Half Ironman to continue organizing the event under the Ironman 70.3 brand through 2013.

Shepparton is about two hours north of Melbourne in the Australian state of Victoria. Ironman 70.3 Shepparton incorporates the city itself and its amazing rural scenery along the bike course and takes place at the Kialla Lake Estate, 5km south of the city center. Shepparton offers one of the fastest Ironman 70.3 courses worldwide and with its picturesque 1.9km lake swim, a flat and fast 90km bike, and 21.1km run along the Goulburn River.
Unfortunately the news comes as registration had just opened and now the event is SOLD OUT for its inaugural running in 2011. "The Shepparton Triathlon Club would like to thank all those that entered our event today. It is with excitement that we now have a record 70.3 field and a sell-out within 4hrs."
The race will have 25 Age Group qualifying slots for the 2012 Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Henderson, Nevada as well as $15,000 USD in prize purse for the professional field.
This will be the fourth Ironman 70.3 Series race added in Australia in the last year, joining Ironman 70.3 Yeppoon, Ironman 70.3 Canberra and Ironman 70.3 Busselton. Australia will now be host to 5 Ironman 70.3 Series races which also includes Ironman 70.3 Port Macquarie which is run in conjunction with Ironman Australia and replaced Ironman 70.3 Geelong.
