BTO Multisports, a Seattle-based race management company, is proud to announce the creation of a unique and innovative race series for 2011: The Pacific Aquathon Series. A combination of swimming and running, an aquathon is ideal for newcomers looking to get started in multisport as well as experienced athletes seeking something different to spice up training and racing.
The series features five races at three venues: the Islander Aquathons presented by Dilettante will be at the jewel of the Mercer Island park system, Luther Burbank Park; the Seward Park Aquathons at the historic wooded peninsula of Seward Park in Seattle; and the Squidman Aquathon/5k at the seaside beauty of the Des Moines Beach Park in Des Moines.
2011 Pacific Aquathon Series:
- Wednesday, July 20th: Seward Park Aquathon I, Seward Park, Seattle
- Wednesday, August 3rd: Islander Aquathon I, Luther Burbank Park, Mercer Island
- Saturday, August 13th: Squidman Aquathon, Des Moines.
- Wednesday, August 17th: Seward Park Aquathon II, Seward Park, Seattle
- Wednesday, August 31st: Islander Aquathon II, Luther Burbank Park, Mercer Island
We are also proud to announce that all proceeds from the Squidman Aquathon/5k will go to the Northwest Parkinson's Foundation (NWPF), a Seattle-based non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of those with Parkinson's disease. Participants can become a part of Team Parkinson's to raise additional funds in support of the NWPF's programs or to honor a loved one with Parkinson's.
Through Food Lifeline, Washington's largest hunger relief organization, each race is paired with a nearby food bank. Race participants can enter a raffle through donation of food items. Cash donations may also be made through Food Lifeline's Virtual Food Drive at www.foodlifeline.org/virtualfooddrive.
Besides beautiful venues, the series also features unique timing: four out of the five take place on weekday evenings, making it a great way to end a summer's day. The short-course format makes it possible to catch a race after work and still make it home in time for dinner! Participants' weekends remain free for other commitments.
With the support of local non-profits and sponsors Dilettante Chocolates and The Balanced Athlete, the Pacific Aquathon Series is sure to become an instant classic with participants and a force for good in our communities.
