The Croatian City of Split will host the newest and first ever TriStar111 triathlon race on September 18th, . The Mediterranean City is a Unesco World Heritage Site, which will offer triathletes a beautiful race circuit in Split along with it's surroundings and history.
The city is located on the Eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea and spreads over a peninsula. It's one of the oldest cities in the area with more than 1700 years of history.
"We're proud to host an international triathlon event in our historic city. Split is one of the sportiest cities with its 67 Olympic medals, and we're looking forward to make triathlon grow in the region", says Ivan Pavic, general secretary of the co-organizer Triathlon Klub Split, and board member and technical director of the Croatian Triathlon Federation.
This will be the ninth triathlon in the TriStar111 series in 2011. Most of the events take place across Europe with it's first international even taking place in Nevis in April.
A TriStar111 triathlon event consist of a 1km of swimming, 100km of cycling and 10km of running, which adds up to the total distance of 111km, thus the TriStar111 name.
Athletes in Split will enjoy 1km of swimming in the harbor. After, competitors will go on a 100km bike ride through Split's scenic hinterland and typical Croatian villages. The Marjan hill (178m) rises in the western part of the peninsula. The ridges Kozjak (779m) and his brother Mosor (1339m) protect the city from the north and northeast, and separate it from the hinterland. The 10km run will take athletes around beautiful spots in the historic center of Split and finally to the finish line located on Split's strolling promenade just a stone's throw away from the famous Roman Emperor Diocletian's Palace.
