Since its beginnings in the late 1970's triathlon has steadily grown to the point where it has become one of the fastest growing mainstream sports in the world. There is no doubt that its spectacular growth can be attributed to the fact that it is a sport for virtually people of all ages and all levels of athletic ability.
In 2000, the sport reached a pinnacle when it was finally an event in a modern day Olympic Games. Since then the popularity of the sport has reached celebrity status in many ways. We now have various actors and actress attempting the sport. This past fall a triathlon event was part of the plot on the new "Hawaii Five-0" TV series on CBS. Now we have a TV commercial that incorporates the running of a triathlon event in the selling plot.
