Spain Lands Another 2011 Triathlon, ICAN Marbella


icanhalfmarbella.jpgMarbella, a city on the Mediterranean Sea, in the Southern Spain province of Málaga will host a another new triathlon event for Spain with the announcement of the new ICAN Marbella Triathlon. The Half ICAN event joins various other new events that country will host in 2011, including the Extreme Man 226, Ironman 70.3 Mallorca, ICAN Full Mallorca Triathlon, TriGrandPrix Spain, TriStar111 Mallorca and the Challenge Fuerteventura triathlon event on Canary Islands.

The ICAN Marbella event will be a half iron distance race, consisting of a 1.9km Swim / 90km Bike / 21km Run. The event will be staged at Puerto Banús, a marina to the west of Marbella on the Costa del Sol. Entries will be limited to 400 participants, and the first 100 entrants will pay a special rate of 119 Euros.

This is the second race in the ICAN family and the second half iron distance event. The other triathlon event takes place on the island of Mallorca and will feature a brand new full / iron distance race in 2011.

Pampering participants is key to the race organizers, thus a prize purse of 9.500 € (roughly $12,000 USD) will be up for grabs for the top 6 male and female finishers.
