Rev3 Heads West with New Half Iron in Portland

Revolution3 adds it's sixth race venue for 2011 with the announcement of a new half iron distance triathlon event in Portland, Oregon. The event is the second half iron distance race added to the schedule in North America, two months ago they added the new Revolutions3 South Carolina event in Anderson, SC. The race will take place on Sunday, July 10, 2011. Athletes of all levels will compete in the half iron distance race that will consist of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and a 13.1 mile run.

"We anticipate a huge influx of out of town participants, who will be exposed to Oregon's breathtaking scenery as well as our region's special passion for the multisport lifestyle," said Oregon Sports Authority CEO Drew Mahalic.

The race will begin with athletes swimming the 1.2 mile in the Willamette River. They will start the race from the Waterfront Park in downtown Portland. The bike portion of the race will take athletes South of Portland through the cities of Lake Oswego and West Linn and Clackamas County. After completing the 56 mile bike portion, athletes will then run 13.1 miles throughout the active and lively downtown area of Portland and witness gorgeous views of Portland's skyline and Mt. Hood.

"Competitors will swim, bike and run through Portland's unique urban setting, while those traveling to support them will find tax-free shopping and culinary options to fill their stay," said Jeff Miller, president and CEO, Travel Portland.

Rev3 expects over 1,200 athletes to participate, as professional triathletes and amateurs will be competing for cash prizes.

Registration is now open for this new and exciting event in Portland, OR.
