Additional Qualifiers for 2011 Long Distance Triathlon Worlds

wildflowerpigmantriathlonlogos.jpgUSA Triathlon has added two additional qualifying events for Team USA for the 2011 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championship on November 5, 2011, in Henderson, Nevada.

"Due to the effects of inclement weather prior to the 2010 USA Triathlon Long Course Triathlon National Championship in Myrtle Beach the dynamics of the initial qualifying event unfortunately were altered," said USA Triathlon National Events Director Jeff Dyrek. "With the world championship taking place on U.S. soil, USA Triathlon wanted to give American athletes another opportunity to qualify for Team USA and represent their country on the world stage."

The additional qualifiers added for 2011 ITU Long Distance Worlds in U.S. are the 2011 Wildflower Triathlon and the 2011 Pigman Long Course Triathlon.

At both events, the top five finishers in each age group (rolling down to 10th place) will earn a coveted Team USA spot. All spots earned in Myrtle Beach also will be honored.

The first additional chance to qualify for ITU Long Distance Worlds will be at the Wildflower Triathlon on April 30, 2011 in Bradley, California. It features a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike and a 13.1-mile run. Click here for more information on the event.

The Pigman Long Course Triathlon, set for August 21, 2011, in Palo, Iowa, also will feature a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike and a 13.1-mile run. Click here for more information on the event.
