France becomes the newest country to host an Ironman 70.3 Series event with the announcement of the new Ironman 70.3 Pays d'Aix event in September of 2011. It's the 4th new Ironman 70.3 series race in Europe announced this year and joins Italy, Ireland, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Belgium and Germany with races in Europe.
Aix-en-Provence is in Southern France, about 31km north of Marseille which is the second most populous city in France, after Paris.
The race will have 35 qualifying slots for the 2012 Ironman 70.3 World Championship event in Henderson, Nevada.
The date of the race has been chosen in accordance with the calendar: no other competing races, ideal for finishing the season and/or preparing for the Ironman World Championships. Aix-en-Provence has a mild climate even in autumn in southern France.
