New York City Triathlon Lottery Opens November 1st, 2010

new york city tri logoFor the first time since its inception in 2000, the Nautica New York City Triathlon will offer a registration lottery beginning Monday, November 1, 2010. In 2011, the Nautica New York City Triathlon will be one of the races in the newly announced, global 5150 Series.

Last year's race sold out in less than six minutes, making the Nautica New York City Triathlon the most in-demand triathlon in America, with more than 3,000 athletes participating.

"While we are thrilled that our race has grown exponentially in popularity, we wanted to make the registration process as fair as possible and that is why we have chosen to go with a lottery system for 2011," said John Korff, president of Korff Enterprises, organizer of the event.

The lottery, which is being handled by Active.com, will open on November 1, at 12:01 AM and close on November 3, at 11:59 PM. People can register for the lottery at www.nyctri.com. Applicants may register for the lottery as an Individual or as a Group, or as a Realy. The lottery includes a non-refundable online processing fee of $11 per athlete.

Triathletes in the 11th Annual Nautica New York City Triathlon will take the plunge into the Hudson River along Manhattan's West Side in Riverside Park (at West 99th Street) on Sunday, August 7, beginning at 5:50 AM. Participants will swim 1.5 kilometers (.9321 miles) in the Hudson, bike 40 kilometers (24.85 miles) on the Henry Hudson Parkway, and run 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) in Central Park.

Once again, the Nautica New York City Triathlon will host the USA Triathlon's Accenture Paratriathlon National Championship with nearly 100 athletes. This race is their only qualifying event for the World Championships; to qualify, they must finish in less than four hours.

Returning for the fourth year, the Triathlon will again host the IAMS 5-Mile Doggy Dash with dogs and their humans vying to be the first to cross the finish line in Central Park to win the coveted red fire hydrant.

Last year, athletes were represented from 42 states and 23 countries, including Australia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Germany, Italy, Panama, South America and Sweden.
