A new Ironman 70.3 Series race in the Northeast is headed to Pennsylvania in 2011 with the addition of the new Ironman 70.3 Pocono Mountains. The inaugural half iron distance race is scheduled for Sunday, October 2, 2011 and will take place in and around the scenic Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

The Pocono Mountains will provide the perfect backdrop for an Ironman 70.3 event. Ironman 70.3 Pocono Mountains will be the closest Ironman 70.3 to both New York City and Philadelphia so we expect the interest in this race to be significant.."
Located within driving distance of most major East Coast cities, the Pocono Mountains region is home to rolling mountain terrain, breathtakingly beautiful waterfalls, thriving woodlands, 170 miles of winding rivers and 261 miles of hiking and biking trails.
The 1.2 mile swim will take place in the Delaware River, at Smithfield Beach located inside the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The 56 mile bike will take athletes from the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area to Stroudsburg and will feature flat stretches with some challenging hills along with quiet farmland and stunning views. The 13.1 mile out and back run course will be utilizing the part of the popular Pocono Marathon run course with a finish line on historic Main St. in downtown Stroudsburg.
The Ironman 70.3 Pocono Mountains event will be produced by Philadelphia Triathlon, LLC, the owner and operator of the popular Olympic Distance Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon event.
