A new triathlon festival was recently announced in New Zealand that has something for everyone, including the kids. The inaugural House of Travel Triathlon Festival set to take place in Pegasus this December. Pegasus is a new town being constructed 25 km north of Christchurch. Whether you've ever done a triathlon before or you are a seasoned athlete, they have a race for you.
The Triathlon Festival will be comprised of: an Age Group Triathlon, a Team Triathlon, a Novice Triathlon, a Kids Triathlon and an Elite Drafting Triathlon.

Race 1 - "The Classic Tri" will open proceedings with a classic age group triathlon. This race is targeted at anyone who has done a triathlon before; the distances include a 500m swim / 15km bike and a 5km run.
Race 2 - "The Team Challenge" is a team triathlon made up of three people (a swimmer, cyclist and runner). This event is ideal for getting workmates or friends together and getting fit before the Christmas break; the distances include a 500m swim / 15km bike and a 5km run.
Race 3 - "Try a Tri" - targeted at the novice athlete or for those stepping up from pool based triathlons. The safe and sheltered waters of the man-made lake make this event ideal for anyone who wants the challenge of a triathlon but has been worried about swimming in the sea; the distances include a 150m swim / 10km bike / 2.5km run.
Race 4 - "Tri Kids Challenge" is for youngsters aged 9-13. If the Weetbix Triathlon is too crowded or not your thing then give this event a go; the distances include 150m swim /5 or 10km bike (dependent on age) / 2.5km run.
Race 5 - "The Elite Cup" - this race will be the final event of the festival and is aimed at those triathletes who regularly finish within the top 15 overall in triathlons. See the best local and national triathletes take part in a draft legal high action race; the distances are 500m swim / 15km (draft legal) bike / 5km run.
Race organizers of the Triathlon Festival will hold several training sessions at Pegasus with supervised swims. Check the website for details. They also will have bike jerseys for sale. Everyone who buys a jersey goes in the drawing to win their money back. The winner will be announced after the race.
