Following the phenomenal success of the inaugural Abu Dhabi International Triathlon last March, attention now turns to the 2011 event, taking place in the United Arab Emirates' capital city on Saturday, March 12th, 2011.
The 2010 event was described by the triathlon and sporting world as 'an instant classic' and organizers are bracing themselves for strong competition for 2011 places. A new Sprint Distance has been added to the itinerary this year, allowing entry into the sport for budding triathlon enthusiasts.
Triathlon: Abu Dhabi International Triathlon

To help beat the rush, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority - which is behind the event - is giving competitors the chance to register their interest before official places go on sale on Thursday, July 1st, 2010.
The pre-registration process couldn't be simpler, visit www.abudhabitriathlon.com and follow the instructions. Signing-up allows triathletes access to a 'priority booking period'. Race hopefuls who pre-register will be sent a unique booking link on Wednesday, June 30th, 2010 - 24 hours before it officially opens, giving them the best chance of securing a place in 2011's most anticipated triathlon.
For 2011 athletes can enter the following distances:
* Long distance (3km Swim, 200km Bike, 20km Run)
* Short distance (1.5km Swim, 100 km Bike, 10km Run)
* Sprint distance (750m Swim, 20km Bike, 5km Run)
* Team relay (Same as Short Distance)
The 2011 event's capacity is 1,500 competitors and due to expected high levels of interest, organizers are urging participants to pre-register to avoid disappointment.
Abu Dhabi International Triathlon offers age group amateur athletes a unique chance to race alongside current triathlon legends. No other event outside of Hawaii is likely to present a field of champions of this magnitude where amateurs can benchmark their skills against elite athletes - testing physical endurance and ability.
Once again the prize purse will be one of the sport's biggest at US$250,000, split between Elite and Age Group athletes, whilst the course will build on its status as one of the most iconic, as it culminates in the exhilarating thrill of cycling round the Yas Marina Circuit - home of the annual Formula 1™ Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Please note that pre-registration does not guarantee a place in the triathlon. Places will still need to be booked when they go on sale.
