Ocean Lava Triathlon, New 1/2 Iron on Lanzarote


OceanLavaTriathlonLogo.jpgThe island of Lanzarote, in the Canary Island known for Ironman Lanzarote and the Volcano Triathlon will now have a new Half Iron distance triathlon event to be known for with the addition of the new Ocean Lava Triathlon. This new independent triathlon race, made by Triathletes for Triathletes is for people who like to challenge themselves with a unique experience.

The new event is being setup by Island Sports Events and Kenneth Gasque who has in charge of:

 • Ironman Lanzarote since the start in 1992,
 • Volcano Triathlon since the start in 1985
 • plus many other sporting events, including the Music Marathon Festival.

Triathlon: Ocean Lava Triathlon
When: Sunday, September 5, 2010 @ 8:00 AM
Where: Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote, Canary Islands
Divisions: Age Group, Relay

The event will be staged from on Playa Grande Beach in Puerto del Carmen and will consist of a 1.9km Swim, 90km Bike, 21.1km Run. The swim course consists of two loops with a little beach run between each in crystal clear waters, which will offer you the opportunity to see the rich underwater life with lots of fish. This bike course is sure to become a memorable one with beautiful scenery, volcanoes and a few tough climbs. The biggest challenge of the day: Femes with a climb of more than 20% on the steepest area just before the top. The run features a three loop out and back course out to Playa Los Pocillos and back. The event is open to Age Group athletes and Relay teams.

Lanzarote is a Spanish island and is the easternmost of the autonomous Canary Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean. It's located approximately 125 km off the coast of Africa and 1,000 km from the Iberian Peninsula. Lanzarote is the fourth largest of the islands.
