Eurostar Tri-City-Athlon - Paris, Brussels, London

logo-etca.jpgEurostar, the high speed rail service connecting London with Paris and Brussels, has been unveiled as the 30th domestic sponsor of the 2012 London Olympics. In celebration of the news, the rail service company has announced a new, unique, special 3 Country - 3 City triathlon event. The Eurostar Tri-City-Athlon will be the first ever triathlon event across three cities in one day, with a swim in Paris, bike in Brussels and run in London.

Triathlon: Eurostar Tri-City-Athlon
When: Tuesday, September 14, 2010
Where: Paris - Brussels - London
Website: www.eurostartricityathlon.com

Athletes will start the day with a 1.5km swim in the Bassin de la Villette in Paris. Then hop on a special Eurostar charter train from Paris Gare du Nord to Brussels-Midi/ZuidKing with a transfer to the King Baudouin I Stadium for the 40km bike course. After biking they wil hop on another special Eurostar charter train from Brussels-Midi/Zuid to St Pancras International terminal with a transfer to Regents Park for the final segment, a 10km run.

Of course this is not your typical triathlon event so it makes sense that this is more of a marketing thing versus a new prospering triathlon event that will be around for years.

The event will be limited to 20 participants, thus the contest for a chance to be one of the 20 participants in the Eurostar Tri-City-Athlon. Athletes interested in being one of the participants need to sign up and submit a video or picture and written message explaining why they deserve to take part in the triathlon. Also, all competitors must confirm that they can complete the three legs in the following times:

•1.5km swim in 00:45:00
•40km bike in 01:40:00
•10km run in 01:10:00
If you fail to do so you will be assisted to the finish or the distance will be reduced.
