This is not normal but now it's official, it only took 13 days for Ironman's oldest qualifier race to sell out for the first time in its 27 year history. Ironman races selling out is a common phenomena for most races in North America and a few in Europe, but the trend has started to spread to other international races, including Ironman Brazil and now Ironman New Zealand and Ironman Australia, which not long ago sold out in under eight hours.
Ironman New Zealand has a lot of history and that's probably one of the reasons the 1,500 participants have decide to register for next year's race. Besides the surrounding beauty the area has to offer, it's expected that Cameron Brown will be setting his sights on an attempt for a 10th win in Taupo and cement his place in the history of the sport. Athletes could also see Joanna Lawn win an 8th title as well.
The race takes place on March 5, 2011 in Taupo, New Zealand. Taupo is a world famous resort destination known for its incredible natural beauty, friendly people and diverse activities for people of all ages. The town goes all out to welcome the athletes and their families.
If you missed your chance, you might be out of luck since it appears that they don't have community slots like they have here in North America and there is no waitlist.
