Iron Punta: Uruguay's Other New Iron Distance Race

Uruguay's second Full Iron Distance triathlon event in 2010 takes shape with the new Iron Punta triathlon set to take place in one of the most beautiful resorts in South America: Punta del Este, Uruguay.

Suca Sports who is organizing this event has the experience. The currently run three half iron distance triathlon events (Half Colonia, Half Punta del Este, Half Triathlon Santa Fe) in Uruguay along with a variety of other events. They are shuffling their race calendar, moving their existing Half Punta del Este race, which they have been running for four years to March and moving in this new event, set to take place in December.

The full distance Iron Punta triathlon will consist of the standard distances of 3.8km Swim, 180km Bike and 42km Run. The course has been carefully chosen to meet the unique demands of the event while also showing off the beauty of the city to competitors and visitors with special focus on providing the least impact to normal vehicular traffic in the area. The swim will consist of 2 loops, the bike course will be 6 loops and the run will involve 3 loops making it a very spectator friendly course, plenty of options to see and cheer those racing. The inaugural event will be limited to 250 participants. Athletes will have 16 hours to complete the course.

Registration for the new Iron Punta full distance event opens on April 12, 2010. Register early as the event will be limited to 250 participants.

The Conrad Punta del Este Resort & Casino will host the event, be the official race headquarters and will offer special rates for competitors and guests.

This will be the second "new" iron distance event in Uruguay in 2010. We previously announced the new superTRIA Piriápolis triathlon event set to take place on March 21, 2010.
