Being part of the 2010 Timex Multisport Team

Timex Multisport Team Photo 2010The Timex Multisport Team, now in its ninth year, brings together athletes from around the globe, both professional and amateur. The team is comprised of athletes from the U.S.A., Australia, India, Ukraine, Mexico, Czech Republic, Estonia, Canada and the United Kingdom. They serve as brand ambassadors for Timex and associated sponsors at hundreds of events around the world.

The 2010 team boasts such well known names as 2007 Ironman USA Champion Alex McDonald, Clearwater age group champion, Chris Thomas; USAT Collegiate Champion, Jessica Broderick and 2009 Ironman Florida Champion, Kiril Kotsegharov. But the true strength of the team is in its breadth of demographics. Ranging from ages 18 to 57, athletes from over a dozen countries and an excellent split of females and males, the diversity of the group is far reaching. One common reference point for each of the 50 athletes, however, is their passion for the sport of triathlon, and their willingness to share their spirit and enthusiasm for the sport.

The team recently gathered together at the Timex Performance Center (TPC) in East Rutherford, NJ for a camp. The TPC is the name of the facility brought forth by a unique partnership with the New York Giants in 2009. The facility enables both brands the opportunity to collaborate on training solutions for athletes of all levels that participate in various sports across the world.

"The fundamental A-plus of our relationship is how to train better, and bring new technology to the marketplace," said Timex President Adam Gurian.

Phaedra-VO2-max.jpgTeam members were introduced to players and members of the NY Giants medical staff along with other professionals that work hard to keep the TIMEX Multisport Team in tip-top shape. The camp afforded each athlete the opportunity to glean in-depth knowledge about his or her key individual performance indicators, and collaborate with a team of medical and coaching experts on training plans for the 2010 season. The activities included biomechanical testing analysis, VO2 Max testing by Targetraining of Westport, CT, and MELT Method training, under the direction of a collaborative team of sports medicine and training experts led by New York Giants VP of Medical Services Ronnie Barnes and Polly de Mille of the Hospital for Special Surgery.

TIMEX Multisport Team member Alex McDonald, MD, a professional triathlete and medical doctor from Durham, NC, participated in the unique role - as both a participating athlete and member of the medical counsel led by Barnes.

timexironmanglobaltrainer_lg.jpgTime was also spent learning about Timex' newest products - most notably, the TIMEX Global Trainer watch, due out later this summer and other products. The new fully loaded GPS unit was designed with great input from the team and the athletes who used initial test units. The watch unit will include an accessory kit for the bike, so that cadence can also be monitored on the wrist.

The TIMEX Multisport Team will be at many Ironman events this season, as well as area clinics across the U.S. To learn more about the TIMEX Multisport Team, its athletes and their adventures, visit teamtimex.timexblogs.com.
