Sprint Tri Series Expands, Gets New Name and a Uniform Distance

amica 19.7 triathlon seriesThe National Sprint Distance Series announced last year returns in 2010 with an expanded race schedule, a new name and a new uniform distance of 19.7 miles. The series will now be called the Amica 19.7 Sprint Triathlon Series. The new name commemorates the year the title sponsor, Amica Insurance was founded (1907) and represents the new uniform total distance of a sprint triathlon in the series, 19.7 miles. Several of the events in the series of Sprint distance races held throughout the country have returned, some have been replaced and a couple of new ones have been added.

Each event in the Amica 19.7 Sprint Triathlon Series will consist of a half-mile swim, a 16.1-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run. The 2010 Amica 19.7 Sprint Triathlon Series kicks off in May with the Amica 19.7 TexasMan Triathlon in Dallas, Texas, and concludes in November with the Amica 19.7 Phoenix. The series added new races in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

The 2010 Amica 19.7 Triathlon Series includes the following races and is open to all participants, amateurs and pros alike:

 • Amica TexasMan Triathlon (May 16, 2010 - Denton, TX)
 • Amica 19.7 Newport (TBD - Middletown, RI)
 • Amica 5430 Sprint Triathlon (June 20, 2010 - Boulder, CO)
 • Amica Mid-Summer Triathlon (August 1, 2010 - Fairview, OR)
 • Amica 19.7 Triathlon at Stumpy Creek (August, 8, 2010 - Mooresville, NC)
 • Amica 19.7 Hartford (August, 22, 2010 - Hartford, CT)
 • Amica 19.7 Tellico Sprint Triathlon (July 18, 2010 - Knoxville, TN)
 • Amica 19.7 Boston (August 27, 2010 - Boston, MA)
 • Amica Lake Las Vegas Triathlon (September 11, 2010 - Henderson, NV)
 • Amica 19.7 Phoenix (November 7, 2010 - Peoria, AZ)

No formal standings will be kept in 2010, however results will be posted immediately following each race.

The race in Amica 19.7 Phoenix will host the series championship where the Pros will compete for a $20,000 prize purse. Three Divisions: Pros, Age Group, Series Winners.

The series is being organized by Eident Sports Marketing, the organizers of the Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island and other sporting events.
