A new late season triathlon event in the Northeast has been announced and it's got a purpose! The new Half Full Triathlon is a 70-mile fight for young adult cancer support with proceeds benefiting the work of the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults and the LIVESTRONG Young Adult Alliance. It is equally meaningful that this partnership is being announced today - October 2, 2009 - LIVESTRONG Day 2009 - one year out from the inaugural Half Full Triathlon on October 3, 2010. The efforts of anyone participating in the event will fuel the shared missions of informing, empowering, and building community for young adults with cancer and their families.
The race will be a modified half iron distance triathlon with distances of .9mi Swim, 56mi Bike, 13.1mi Run for a total of 70 miles. The 70 miles represents the 70,000 is the estimated number of young adults diagnosed with cancer each year
Using triathlon and community support, we will raise significant awareness and money for young adult cancer support - the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adult and the Lance Armstrong Foundation - and mobilize thousands of people, locally and nationally, around the young adult cancer issue. So go out and Swim, Bike, Run, and Fight for young adults with cancer on 10/3/2010 in Columbia, Maryland.
The Columbia Triathlon Association which puts on several great triathlon events in the Northeast area and Robert Vigorito have formally announced their commitment to be one of our newest community partners in this cancer fighting initiative. Vigo himself has also officially announced his commitment to race in this inaugural event and he challenges the triathlon and cancer community to do the same!

Ulman Cancer Fund
The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults is a leading voice in the young adult cancer movement. For the past eleven years, the organization has been enhancing lives by supporting, educating and connecting young adults, and their loved ones, affected by cancer. A three-time cancer survivor by age 20, Doug Ulman and his family quickly learned how few support resources and services existed for young adult cancer patients and survivors. Frustrated by this void and motivated by the desire to help others, the Ulman family founded the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults. Together with its network of friends, survivors, and other support organizations in the cancer community, the Ulman Cancer Fund envisions a world in which all young adults affected by cancer will have the support and access to resources that they need to thrive. www.ulmanfund.org
LIVESTRONG
The LIVESTRONG Young Adult Alliance is a coalition of organizations with the goal to improve the survival rates and quality of life for young adults with cancer between the ages of 15 and 40. The Alliance is committed to promoting research and the investigation of the problem, serving as a voice for the issue and promoting effective solutions. www.livestrong.org
