Germany To Host 2nd Ironman Race Starting in 2010


ironman regensburgRegensburg, Germany, one of the oldest cities of Bavaria will play host to the second Ironman race venue in Germany in 2010. The city on the banks of the Danube river is known for its numerous historical buildings in the city center, which are World Heritage Sites. Ironman Regensburg will take place a month after Ironman Germany and will be the 6th race in Europe and the 24th race in the Ironman series. It will also be the second new Ironman event in 2010 as Ironman St. George was announced earlier this year and is set to take place in May of 2010.

The new Ironman Regensburg triathlon event is an official qualifying race for the Ironman World Championship race in Hawaii, and will be awarding 50 slots for pro and age group athletes.

The 3.8km swim course will take place in Lake “Guggenberger See”, located in an attractive recreation area of the city Neutraubling, just 12 km southeast of Regensburg. The 180km bike course, is a 2 loop course with impressive ascents will take athletes through the nature park “Naturpark Bayerischer Wald”, in the northeast of Regensburg. It passes the famous monument “Walhalla” and takes the athletes through the selective and attractive area south of the river Danube. The challenging bike course with 1,500 meters altitude difference is sure to be remembered not only for the beautiful landscape. The 42.2km run course will be a 4 loop course, leading athletes through scenic parts of the Danube island and the historical city center of Regensburg. The finish line will be located near the “Steinerne Brücke/Stadtamhof”, a World Heritage Site.

Registration is now open for the new Ironman Regensburg event in Germany. Make sure to register early for this new event because the price goes up starting January 1, 2010.

- 380 Euros before December 31, 2009 (approximately $540 USD)
- 430 Euros starting January 1, 2010 (approximately $611 USD)
