First Annual San Diego Triathlon Classic set for October


san diego triathlon classic logoA new late season triathlon event has been added to the schedule for later this year in California. The San Diego Triathlon Classic set to take place in October and will feature San Diego's only USAT sanctioned Olympic Distance race and a Sprint Distance triathlon event. The triathlon event is being put on by the folks at Moment Cycle Sport.

The race course showcases the best of San Diego and is designed to be a quality race experience. Athletes will experience the history and beauty of America's finest city as they make their way through naval bases, historic monuments and San Diego’s waterfront on this spectator friendly course.

The triathlon will consists of a 1500 meter swim in the calm waters of San Diego Bay, featuring unparalleled views of the downtown San Diego skyline and a unique opportunity to swim under the Pedestrian Footbridge near Harbor Dr. Water temps are generally in the high 60s so wetsuits are recommended. The 40 km, two-loop bike course will present a worthwhile challenge beginning at Liberty Station and passing through scenic Point Loma, the Point Loma Submarine Base, and Cabrillo National Monument, with challenging elevation climbs, testing athletes' fitness and skill level. The 10 km run is flat and forgiving, winding through historic NTC / Liberty Station, along the San Diego water front and the USS Recruit. The transition area and start / finish line is convenient and spacious for both athletes and spectators, ideally situated on the water's edge in the southern corner of Liberty Station in the large Parks and Recreation green space. Ample parking will be available in the many parking lots within Liberty Station.

The sprint distance triathlon will consist of a 750me Swim, 20km Bike and a 5km Run on the same course.

The post-race festivities will be epic, featuring entertainment, award ceremonies, refreshments, vendors and exhibits.

Rescue Task Force is an agile and innovative non-profit organization whose mission is to alleviate suffering and provide developmental aid to those who have been marginalized by geography or economic deprivation. We often go where others do not go to help those who are outside the scope of conventional relief providers. We also respond rapidly with medical and other immediate aid to victims of man-made and natural disasters world-wide.

Registration is currently open for this new triathlon event which is set to take place in two month in beautiful and sunny San Diego. Registration is via Active.com and you have to be a USAT member.
