NA Sports and USA Triathlon Not Liable in Wrongful Death Claim


Barney Rice died in November 2006 after collapsing during the swim portion of the triathlon at Panama City Beach. His survivors sued North American Sports Inc. and USA Triathlon for wrongful death, saying organizers didn’t follow their own protocol in setting up safety measures.

This past Firday, a seven-man, one-woman jury deliberated for 90 minutes before finding that organizers (NA Sports and USA Triathlon) of the 2006 Florida Ironman were not responsible for the participant’s death.
